There's a J! connection here.

On one of my flights to LA for a taping, I paid some extra $ and upgraded myself to first class. In the seat in front of me on the plane was Louie Anderson. He was wearing one of those velour-looking tracksuits; very comfortable for flying, but not a pretty sight.

As I exited the terminal in search of (I think) a rental-car shuttle, I saw him standing on the curb, chain smoking as he waited for his ride.

I'm sort of astonished that he was only 68. He looked about 68 on that flight, and that was in 2003.

Louie Anderson had wonderful late-in-life success as Zach Galifiniakis's "mother" on the show Baskets. One of the great performances of recent years. I also was a big fan of Meat Loaf's way with those great Jim Steinman songs (not to mention Eddie in Rocky Horror!) A sad day in my house.

My biggest exposure to Louie Anderson was not from his stand-up act or even his Feud hosting days, which came when I was in college and had little time for enjoying game shows, but, somehow, from his animated series on Fox. Why would I have watched this? I would have been a teenager when it aired. I don't even remember particularly liking it. But it was there.

Just saw this - right before I would have posted the exact same thing!

One of my J! life goals is to ring in on a clue about that particular singer and respond, "Who is Loaf?"
