Re: Wednesday, January 19, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Nice opening by Ken with Amy having played on four federal holidays and a possible fifth next month.
Only Ken could cap Amy's "Lose Yourself" chat to end with "mom's spaghetti" although a lot of viewers will have no idea how to connect it.
Ken had another hit with the Mayim mention after a certain clue.
The writers struck out with the Mamoa clue being untimely while nice to see Tippi Hedren get a mention on her 92nd b-day.
Besides Amy missing the FJ! clue she might want to not serve up tasty rebounds being 100 off at 500 as in the TOC that will not go TS. I get why Aztec was a neg in the Mexico category while wishing Amy had been able to keep it from the 4th podium.
The FJ! category had me run Best Picture winners to current while the clue had me use that for a miss when I wrote A Beautiful Mind and could not get my head to untrack to something funnier as I figured it must be.
It was not until the music was over and Ken gave his pre-reveal remark that I figured out the right film. My bad as it's not necessary to have seen the movie to solve the clue.
A Wednesday miss for me to go with a Monday miss is small potatoes while Amy's is 1/3 for the week is losing 35K on her misses.
DD1 was 200+200. Sure, great time to go for a laugh instead of the house limit, not that it made any difference.

Noted. Good one, not that I can check it, having only seen Clueless (at least three times).Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:37 pm Poll request: I have seen all three of Clueless, The Paper Chase, and [the correct response]

In order to solve the clue, you probably at least have to know that The Paper Chase is about law school and not, for example, a story of high finance.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:43 pm it's not necessary to have seen the movie to solve the clue.
Re: Wednesday, January 19, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I don't know what any of those three movies are about, so I was completely lost here.

Re: Wednesday, January 19, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Didn't know the two sheets variation. Googling it turns up plenty of citations defining it as extremely drunk, none as slightly--at least none on the first page of results, which are the only ones that ever matter. I have to actually include the search term "slightly drunk" to get those citations.
Archivist note: "zea mays" should have a capital Z since it's genus and species, yeah?
I have seen Clueless--in the theater in 1995 and several times on a TV screen since--and Legally Blonde--once on VHS. Haven't seen The Paper Chase but I'm familiar with the subject matter. (It's a documentary about the exact moment when Boomers decided to abandon their ideals in favor of getting rich by screwing future generations, right? Anyway, it's about law school students.) So this FJ was pretty easy. Amy's guess was reasonable, especially if she wasn't familiar with The Paper Chase and guessed that it was about the newspaper business. Never Been Kissed was a romcom about a Chicago Sun-Times reporter (Drew Barrymore) who went back to high school undercover.

I came up with a better poll question that gets to the heart of what I really want to know:MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:44 pmNoted. I solved Wednesday's final without knowing that The Paper Chase was about law school.

opusthepenguin: Zea now capitalized, thanks. The OCR had zea Mays and I made it mays in thinking the OCR had Willie Mays on its mind without thinking about what both parts meant.

Having seen all the movies, this was an instaget, and I think it still would have been even if I had only seen The Paper Chase. Conversely, my girlfriend, who had seen Clueless, Legally Blonde, the sequel and the musical had no idea because she had no idea what The Paper Chase was about.

Re: Wednesday, January 19, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Didn't know what The Paper Chase was about, but got the answer pretty quickly just thinking of a movie where a character talks like they do in Clueless. Once I got to Legally Blonde, knowing it was from 2001 made me fairly confident.Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 2:00 pmIn order to solve the clue, you probably at least have to know that The Paper Chase is about law school and not, for example, a story of high finance.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 1:43 pm it's not necessary to have seen the movie to solve the clue.
