Re: Thursday, January 27, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
After the first segment: 1000-400-600
The game (even with Rhone the returning champ) was like the old days with three new players after a 5xer retired.
You've missed having chances at a 4th podium victory? Today's your day. "Divine", paint it black, "Good" novelist, no rebound after Carrie "Tennessee Tuxedo-ed a clue...
29 clues in the J! round. Things went just well enough in DJ! to squeeze in the full 30.
Nice opening for Ken being able to show Rhone's reaction from yesterday.
The FJ! category list I made was Adam Smith, Henry/Hale and Robespierre/Marat
The FJ! clue thinking for me went from Parson Weems to the right guy as my foreign names associated with G.W. is short.
Carrie was the best of the three players, even with 1/4 on wagering clues, so I was happy to see the guys bet big.
The Friday players had a long taping day and had to have been happy when their names were finally called.
Side note: I read that the tape day lunch was after the Tuesday game meaning Amy's last game was just after the break.

Trying to decide if 9199 is the worst possible wager from the trailing position here.
Obviously wager everything or between 0-1600 category dependent. 1602 might be the worst but it wins in this case.

"Dublin" was no help to me and I think your knowledge of the correct-response guy would have to be pretty deep for it to have been a help to you, considering that
Also wouldn't have expected a
to have expected to have made a "fortune". Or for a fortune to have actually been made for
The only post-Revolutionary I could think of who would have been expected to profit from Washington was L'Enfant, but why would he have been coming from Dublin?
Spoiler
he was born in Rhode Island, trained in Scotland, and was only in Dublin to flee creditors.

"Dublin" has the appearance of a deliberate misdirection. The clue would have been easier if they had left that part out entirely.Robert K S wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 1:54 pm "Dublin" was no help to me and I think your knowledge of the correct-response guy would have to be pretty deep for it to have been a help to you. Drop Dublin and I'm 60%-70% sure the response is L'Enfant. I would have need to have been spotted an occupation, but at that point, it's kind of a giveaway.

I went with Parsons Weems too. Didn't think of Gilbert Stuart at all. Considered l'Enfant, but could not connect him to Dublin..
One and done for Rhone

Re: Thursday, January 27, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I don't think they do that. More likely they figured, Stuart sounds Scottish and that's close enough to Irish, and how many really know Gilbert Stuart's biography. I don't approve of that sort of thinking, but I'm used to it. Also, I couldn't name Washington's dentist, so Stuart was all I had.mas3cf wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 1:57 pm"Dublin" has the appearance of a deliberate misdirection. My guess matched Chris.
Larry Bird is my all-time favorite NBA player, so that was a gimme, thanks to him.

I didn't like Ken's pronunciation of "TGV trains" tonight. I would have said "tay jay vay" "tay zhay vay".

Giant killer curse strikes again...
I had no guess on FJ! I know who Gilbert Stuart was, but this just didn't click at all.

So did I, and immediately thought it was too obscure for Jeopardy but couldn't come up with anything better.
Going into final, I thought it was a good game and refreshing for a change, but then I noted that with Pearl Buck being a triple stumper, none of the contestants on stage were going to become super champs.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

I thought about Stuart and Weems...and picked the wrong one.

couldn't think of a Irish merchant who made it big off Washington.
