Again the NYT clue on the website was not this FJ…
Liechtenstein also has a population of about 38,000.

Re: Wednesday, April 6, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
This was a demolition derby with Grave Digger vs. Subarus. One reality check before having Mattea's red blazer vs. Amy's pink one in the TOC final is the double digit TS clues.
After the DJ! round Mayim noted Mattea's 35R. That is some good all around knowledge and buzzer mastery.
The FJ! category had me write five precalls. All wrong though if I had written a sixth it probably would have been the right one.
When playing the clue I started crossing off my precalls. Andorra? No Spanish in the clue. Vatican City? That's too many people. Liechtenstein? I need to see some German in the clue. Malta? Where's the British? That left me with my guess of San Marino.
By the day I'm becoming more grateful for that CURRENT TELEVISION bone thrown my way on Monday.

Re: Wednesday, April 6, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I've lost count of how many times I gasped/yelled etc at Vernon's glaring mistakes. Don't remember the last time that happened.
DDs were utter joke today.
Stayed clear of Lichtenstein/ Luxembourg to land correctly in FJ.
Have to see Mattea's performance against some stronger competition. 35 is still very impressive.

Good enough to lose on Jeopardy!

Don't the contestants even watch J!? Good job of not looking for DDs.
Looked at Liechtenstein & San Marino before getting to the correct Monaco.

I fell for the population trap, and disregarded the rest. I picked Lichtenstein because of the lower population.
It's pretty close.

Texahoma should have been negged and not given time to correct.

FWIW, German is the 4th largest Liechtenstein demographic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LiechtensteinMarkBarrett wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 1:45 pm .... Liechtenstein? I need to see some German in the clue.
66.2% Liechtensteiners
9.5% Swiss
5.8% Austrians
4.2% Germans
Which...makes it impossible to get 50% without including natives sadly for my scorecard.
Incidentally, they could've used German instead of Swiss in the clue and still be correct: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaco#Demographics
French (28.4%)
Monégasque (21.6%)
Italian (18.7%)
British (7.5%)
Belgian (2.8%)
German (2.5%)
Swiss (2.5%)

Go Mattea!
I will probably own the only guess of the Vatican, after also mulling Lich(insert bad spelling here) and Monaco. I didn't know where the French would come from, but I took the inclusion of Swiss as a TOM for the Swiss Guard. I'm not fond of the use of fake countries in FJ clues. Might as well include Freedonia and Elbonia as candidates.
I have been in the Vatican, Lich??, and Monaco and thought there might be a few more than 38K people in the L-word phony country.
Boo, hiss Mayim for not letting Vernon at least tell us what the first ever classroom subjects were about. "That's incredible" is code for "whatever" when you don't even let him offer a little more detail.
Courtesy of MB's impeccable posting: the spelling of the L-word fake country is :
Lichtenstein (my guess was Lichtenpcitationstein)

Am I the only one who was delighted to see the pic of Laura Nyro even before the full clue was read? Based on people I talk music with, everyone else in the world seems to have completely forgotten she ever lived.LucarioSnooperVixey wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 3:33 pm 58 R (Missed the Bottom Two in Women in Music.)
