Also my guess.
Never been on J!, but once won a knockoff version that aired on local access TV.

That annoyed me. Ken definitely would have given it.

No clue on FJ, although I did coincidentally guess a 1929 novel with The Sound and the Fury.

Figured it was a Hemingway novel but confidently guessed For Whom the Bell Tolls without a second thought. At least John Donne was still alive in 1590.

All the times throughout the years filing through the Archive, I should've got errata/erratum. Blurted out error instead.

I thought To Sir, With Love was the perfect response to FJ. Seemed like an appropriate title for a poem to the Queen's favorite knight, but it turns out that book was written 30 years after AFtA.

Oh well, I would probably still win this game on stage considering all the TS's and my 3/3 on DD.

FJ really needed a "fittingly".

"Quite the kick". Is there only one? This usage has annoyed me since the late 20th century, when the plague took old. Prior to then, it was generally reserved for somebody in a role; "quite the man about town", or "very much the damsel in distress". I even complained to Safire then but he could be pretty lax.

Gezira is a good name for a crocodile. Sorry to see it wasted on an isle.

The prepositional lit cat seemed pointless, as presented. I find it weird to go back and forth between asking for the title and giving you the title.

Yes, a lot of Lach Trash. A bigger range of ages might have made for less silence. But I guess you don't want the stench of decaying flesh overpowering the stage.

Perhaps I should take a break.
I'm smart and I want respect.

It seems the complaint against MB has been that she gives too many first names... Did we need to know Darwin was Charles elsewhere in the game? I believe there was a cut after the Kroc question so they must have discussed whether to accept it or not, then forgot to fill in the blank.

My curse of never remembering the right Hemingway novel continues...I said For Whom the Bell Tolls, which in retrospect is a little grim for a retirement. If the right title had come to mind I would have known it fit (though I didn't know about the poem)...

Feels cheap to take the Coryat rebound on 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' but it's within the rules, right?

The Farragut clue could've used a script doctor...I thought they were asking for the ship at first except you could easily see the name on the plaque so I'm like, they must be asking for Farragut (which was also there, but not as easy to read). *rolls die*

Stumbled on the FJ pretty quick. "1920s? Fitzgerald...Hemingway...Papa used poems as title inspiration, lessee, bell, sun, arms, there we go! Farewell to Arms"
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

It couldn't have been For Whom the Bell Tolls, since that originally came from Metallica.

Mayim: You have $800, how much do you want to bet?
Karim: $1000
Mayim: Excuse me? Do you have two forms of ID? (edited at post)

Rinse and repeat at $1400

saddest triple stumper: Jimmy Carter, only the best human being ever to be POTUS.
best triple stumper: Blue Christmas, can we finally quit treating 6 decade old music crap of the month like it's a cultural heritage? Boomers gotta boom I guess  .
Danielle represented well even without a hometown clue at FJ. Mayim had a rough game imho.

No chance at FJ for me. I was trying to think of something with Camelot overtones. I didn't know that knights were a real thing as far as being historical figures. There's lot of famous fictional knights of course, but how many Generals can you name that aren't in political office?

Because Emily said Roy Kroc, the idea is that Karim - speaking about respect for first names - should have been required to give the correct first name. If I were more ambitious, I'd look back to the last time we discussed this. I can't remember whether examples were given of this requirement or not.

I will be very interested to see the box score for this one as I suspect that Karim was getting fairly consistently outbuzzed. Lots of Lach trash in this one. Regarding the Elvis song; though I’d never heard of it, I was able to get it easily from the Color category and the “sad noël” phrase. And color me shocked that FJ was a TS. 1929 American novel and a knight’s retirement? Yes, I first thought of For Whom the Bell Tolls, but got to thx correct title shortly thereafter. I’ll be interested to see how it polls.

I got curious about Emily after she contradicted Mayim twice in her interview. With two clicks, I had her cell phone number. Don't worry. I won't be calling. But Jeopardy contestants should be more careful.

Strange interview that was, with Mayim making the point that she was much older than six when she was the star of Blossom. Of course, it should be mentioned that her best friend was Six. Groan.

I had the feeling that both the champ and Karin were out of their league when they started as low on the board as they did and came up empty. Kareem furthermore couldn't name more than one of the cities that make up the Boswash megalopolis when spotted Boston and Washington. And then he acted like a child when he didn't.

I knew it was going to be a major work by an important author, but the best I could come up with to not be blank was a man for all seasons, which I am not sure is even a novel.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

II'm not stating it. I think I asked about it a while ago. I honestly don't remember if examples were given or not. If I could search my own posts for words like first or name or first name I could find the thread...

I found a game where someone gave a response of "Who is Ray Cock?" The correct rebound was was given as Ray Kroc. https://www.j-archive.com/showgamerespo ... me_id=7132

That link came from Google and shows responses only in that game, no clues. I don't know how to fix the URL.

And Joan Kroc pops up in occasionally in clues about her donations to the Salvation Army.

Coryat: $44,800
50 R/0 W
DD: 2/3
FJ: :(
LT: Andes candies (yum), In the Heat of the Night, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, "Blue Christmas" (DD), mudpuppies, Great Basin, corpus, Jimmy Carter, David Farragut

I gotta say, I'm shocked Danielle was able to put together a fairly dominant win despite once again not attempting to buzz on very many clues (24 in her first game, 25 tonight). But, you play the game and the opponents that are in front of you, and she's a multi-day champ.

I started FJ! trying to come up with The Great Gatsby, but my mind went absolutely blank on the title for about the first 20 seconds of the Think! music. By the time it finally came to me and I realized it couldn't possibly be the correct response, I was dead in the water. Not that it mattered, as there's no way the correct title would have come to me even without the Fitzgerald distraction.

The Elton John clue was one that could be troublesome if one had too much knowledge, as Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy--the first album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart--came two albums after Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

I got a chuckle out of the thought of mambo contests being the basis for Out of Africa.
Bamaman wrote: Mon May 09, 2022 7:26 pm I do think he should have been given a nudge when he gave one of the three cities on the DD.
Agreed. I also think it's a terrible DD clue. Asking for three responses that aren't part of a natural group is a bad idea. (FTR, I forgot all about Baltimore and ended up guessing Newark as my third.)
Sprinkles are for winners.

Danielle is trying the bounce strategy with mixed results, She has won two games, so good in that regard. However, she isn’t yet settling into any kind of groove,

I always thought the old rule was that you can’t just ring in and give a last name when a fellow contestant rings in with an incorrect first name - but do I remember any specific instance of this? No.

The 3 city DD: With this one, no doubt that Alex would have said “looking for three cities…” after Karim got the first one right. Karim seemed to get wheelhouse pop culture categories but fumbled them. A lot of nerves, I assume.

Unless some big wins are coming the next two days, Danielle will likely need to win five to get into the TOC.
