Bounced out of the relegation zone, barely. It ain’t over til it’s over, kids!
Count me in. I spent from MD9 til MD22 in either first or second. Two ugly days of getting only two correct, and I'm in a three way tie for 2nd, but I'm in 4th based on MPD, and am not getting moved to the B rundle if I'm tied with the other two. Damn you Mark Barrett, and some other guy.
Second time in a row this has happened. Rookie Rundle in LL92. I spent MD10 to MD23 in first place, lost my last two and ended up in the C instead of B rundle. Last day of LL92. I lost 8(5)-7(5) when all I needed was a tie to stay in the top three. That day only two guys got more than four right in the entire rookie rundle.

After checking the LL forum, seems I wasn't the only one who knew 'heliotrope' but thought it just referred to the way plants followed the sun, not that it was a species unto itself
Certainly not. I felt so clever for thinking of "nightshade" that I defended it for three points because you had to be both knowledgeable and smart to come up with it.

To be fair, it was only 14% correct so no shame in defending it with 3. My oppt of course got it but I got the win anyway, 6(4)-4(2) with JBoardHavoc-like defense. Just out of relegation zone with 2 days to go!
It may not be good form to double post, but I had horrible intuition regarding get rates this past week. MD24 felt to me like easily the hardest MD this week, and the get rates suggested the opposite.
Most shocking was the “ankh” question. I have been to most of the ancient sights in Egypt and took an Egyptology class this past semester, and had NHO. Was expecting about a 10% get rate. Instead, it was higher than two MD22 questions combined, which I will talk about soon.
I wouldn’t have expected the Carleton question to have a high get rate among random people off the street, but I would have thought it was something that people in circles with a lot of people who went to highly selective private colleges would know, and the colleges listed by LL members suggest that many LLamas fit the bill. So I would have expected well over 50% to get it.
And the craps question, 2 and 3 are a Pavlov for craps, and the name fits well with the “lower-class” part of the question. I thought it was around the same difficulty as “Jenga” earlier this season. In retrospect, not knowing many other casino games probably made it seem easier than it was.
With one match day left, I sit in 5th, one point away from returning to A and there is only person catchable. I looked, and guess who I'm playing on Monday? That person. So, win and go up, lose or tie and stay down.
I'm riding a 3 match losing streak losing 9(5)-4(4). I'm locked into 4th and will miss promotion no matter what. This being my second season, I went back and looked 32 or 33 points had gotten promoted the last 3 LL in my rundle. I had 33 as a target the whole time. I'm sitting at 33 and may end up with 35. I better target 36 next time.
Maybe I'm just looking forward to having to target 21 stay away from demotion. I need to get promoted first.
It's funny...I finished Friday, then thought to myself, Self? There's one day left, just burn the AA and get it over with. No sense stressing out from the oddball floating day at the end.
Then I spend more time today making sure I have the checkmark than I typically spend on actually doing the questions in the first place...

While it was a pleasant surprise to see that 'girdles was accepted, all it meant for me was gaining a tie, and therefore missing promotion by a point.
I also went with girdle, a total WAG, and was shocked to see it accepted. It won the match for me but made little difference as I finished in the middle of the pack. It did, however, cost my opponent the win and promotion to A, and I feel kinda bad for her.
I actually thought I had a shot at a six-pack yesterday, and only got three. I had Tamil rather than Telugu, garter rather than thong, and Foreman rather than Norton.
The garter one seemed like such a Thorsten classic: "Huh, worn by women in certain settings? Obviously weddings! Garter. Done!"
No big deal for me. I was going to end up more or less smack in the middle of my rundle win or lose (and I lost).
It is goofy, I was thinking 5 or 6 and felt pretty good about it.
I had Tamil and garter. I also had Bedloe island, and skipped Ellis island completely. Turns out Bedloe is just the old name, and I'm sure I knew that somewhere back there. The other three I knew cold.
Norton is the guy that broke Ali's jaw during the fight.

It's not clear from your post, but Bedloe's Island was the name for the island that the Statue of Liberty stands on. It is not the same as Ellis Island.
I said "corset" and didn't think it could really be anything else. Malayalam for the language, which at least is South Indian.
I shot par for the season and avoided relegation though my match score puts me on the bubble and I was outanswered by all three of my fellow bubblers. Showing again that it's easier to stay in A than to get there.
Just finished an enjoyable rookie season courtesy of my referrer and mentor TFB. Finished 6th out of 26 in my rookie rundle at 15-7-3, so I believe that means I'll be in "C" next season. I'm not sure that bodes well, since against the others in the group moving to "C" I went 0-4-1. Ouch.
I was pleasantly surprised by my defensive efficiency stats. Based on my performance in TDs I usually don't seem to have a good grasp of how others might respond. I had a DE of .777, UfPA of 19, and PCAA of 1.15. All three numbers were second in the rundle, so I can't be unhappy.
It was a fun and informative intro to LL, and I'll be looking forward to Season 94.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
