From what I remember, "overpriced tourist trap"

(If you're after an observation deck in Seattle, might I recommend the Sky View? It's cheaper AND higher up)
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Also, the Sky View Observatory gives you a good (if admittedly somewhat distant) view of what is arguably the most distinctive and recognizable feature in the Seattle skyline. This is not true of the Space Needle.

This Missouri native says nobody within the state would. I don’t remember hearing anybody refer to it that way regardless of where they’re from.

The proper name is Gateway Arch, at first glance I’d rule St. Louis Arch wrong. Would Seattle Needle be correct for Space Needle?
I also anticipated that "St. Louis Arch" would be negged. Can't fathom why it wasn't. Would they accept "the Arizona Canyon" instead of "Grand Canyon?" Just sayin....

Catenaries are frequently confused with parabolas, but they are not the same.
I'm glad you said "not the same" rather than "entirely different" because that would have been hyperbolic.
I was going to say this question was a sinh, but I wasn't sure if that would be cosher.
OK , you can go to your room now.

St. Louis Arch is certainly common parlance and what I've most frequently heard it called (having said that, I would have answered Gateway Arch).

"St Louis Arch" is, for better or worse, used as a synonym for Gateway Arch which makes it correct https://www.google.com/search?q="st+louis+arch"
Arizona Canyon is not equal to Grand Canyon: https://www.google.com/search?q="arizona+canyon"

Kinda like how the best view in NYC is from Top of the Rock and not the ESB.

Just don't get there too late, he gets tired of letting tourists climb him after about 4:00 PM.

mahatma wrote: Tue May 17, 2022 11:05 am I wouldn't expect a St Louis resident to ever refer to the Gateway Arch as the 'St Louis Arch', any more than I would expect a Bostonian to talk about 'Boston Common', a New Orleanian to refer to the 'New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival', or an Angeleno to have any idea what to call the 'Los Angeles, California Angels of Anaheim 92806 (AL)'.

As a Kentuckian and longtime Louisvillian, you would never catch me saying 'Kentucky Derby'.
But you will get an odd look from the server in a Denver restaurant if you simply order "the omelet."
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Seattleite here. We call it the Space Needle or the Needle.
Hmu for the best view of the Needle in town--I'm three blocks away and won't charge you $35, but my floors aren't glass.

Seconded.

Also I've now lived in Seattle for over 25 years and still haven't been to the top of the Needle! You can also get a darn good view for free by going to Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill. This is the "Frasier" view of downtown Seattle.

Bamawoman and I had a day in Seattle after our Alaskan cruise. We walked up to the needle but decided paying for admission wasn’t worth it.
