Ryan was not heard from until J10 to show how a slow start can easily be overcome.
Vangelis clue today. Nice run by Ryan in the category even if the clues were easy.
Like yesterday, today I matched Ryan again for the FJ! clue. It was like an old school FJ! clue with so few words used to lead directly to the place.
Hello new taping group, this is Ryan Long the 6-time champion with $131,801 in winnings. [Collective, "Oh ___!"]

18/2 (Adele & What College held me back), 24/3. Ran S. American Cities, Diseases, History Paintings)
Cleanest boards in a long time. Just the Stations of the Cross & two missed DDs for me.
Thought Mr. Jones was way undervalued in the Farmer category.
Is it just me or have they had a lot of Seven Sisters clues lately? (two in What College)
FJ: Ural?????? Any J!-class player should get this

Re: Friday, May 20, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Coryat: $43,600
51 R/2 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Argentina (DD), Reed College, William Faulkner (DD)
For all the mojo Ryan's been putting together and the 80%+ buzz rates he's had in several games, it was surprising to see him have such a slow start today.
Mayim mentioned the connection between Argentina and the Rio de la Plata, but there's also the related fact that the country, the river, and the place names mentioned in the clue are all named for the element silver.
That's not the only reason Reed is "tagged as a red hotbed."
With as well as Ryan is able to work with Pavlovs and intuit his way through clues, it was surprising to see him substitute "male author + Mississippi (River) = Twain" for "male author + Mississippi (state) = Faulkner."
Hesse and Hessians in the same round? Heh.

Ditto. There are plenty of well-known characters from Animal Farm--Napoleon, Snowball, Old Major, et al.--but Mr. Jones is way down the list.
Sprinkles are for winners.

Coryat 43,600
50R/0W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
Maybe I should have gotten Covid sooner... probably my highest average coryat week in months.
The writers always seem to be obsessed with the Seven Sisters. I feel like my alma mater Vassar was an answer pretty recently before today too.

Like the Seven Wonders, the Seven Sisters should be on your short list study guide.
Another WTF moment was Ryan putting Harvard in New Hampshire.
No guess for me on FJ.

I wasn't positive that Baikal was in Siberia, but I knew it was close enough.

Interesting scores. This was one time Ryan should have bet for the tie and not the win. A bet of 3000 for Ryan would have guaranteed at least a tie and if Li bet 6000 to try to beat a 3001 bet he’d still tie if he was wrong and she was right. But I can’t kill him over the 5000 wager.
I think Ryan might be who I root for in TOC.

I would have bet $3,000 in her spot. That forces third to get it right to top me and wins by a dollar on a solo get.BobF wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 8:28 pm Interesting scores. I wasn’t impressed by Ryan in his first game. He won on the strength of running a pop culture category in DJ and the leader missed FJ. But he has proven me wrong. My apologies to him and good luck in the TOC.

I'm officially irritated at Mayim continually saying the complete response after every response.

The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.

Re: Friday, May 20, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I didn't know Lake Baikal was in Siberia, but I knew it was in the 'hood so I fittingly got this straightforward clue that didn't require an iterative process of guessing authors and titles and characters and timeframes. Kind of a cross between YEKIOYD and WECIB.
Another "huzzah" (I think that's a good thing?) for showing the category onscreen in FJ.
Did I miss anything important in that Adele "Hello" riposte with Toni? If so, I fully support Mayim trying to fun it up.
Maybe you can get used to it as long as all the questions get cleared. I like it fine. She does it in a way that is not critical or aggrandizing, is obviously just confirming/informing the viewers, and does it quickly. I knew the guy in the painting (pun not intended), but Li-Mae's reply of "who is Fawkes" was so quick that it could have been mistaken for an f-bomb to some viewers. Lots of people have heard the name or expression "Guy Fawkes", but would not connect the dots based on just the blurted last name. So Mayim says "yes, Guy Fawkes", and the show moves on and some viewers can pretend they knew the answer because they heard of that guy (just can't avoid the puns). Win win win.
