Fourth Podium Poll for Thursday, May 26, 2022

Post by opusthepenguin »

A modest pre-FJ $10,000 for Ryan plus a whiff on FJ makes him very catchable from Podium 4 today, even with no DDs available. Of course, this FJ might skew tough and take a lot of contenders out at the last moment.

SCORES GOING INTO FJ

Ryan Long: 10000-0=10000
Tory Waltrip: 4600-2000=2600
John Seroff: 3000-0=3000 (Missed FJ but had no incentive to get it, so it's not clear that he really didn't know)
CORRECT RESPONSES

Worst case scenario is $6000 if I tried to rebound off "psalm" with "hymn" rather than N, and if I tried to rebound off Tiffany with Fabergé rather than Cartier. I was in a relaxed mood tonight, so I'm not sure if I'd have really buzzed in on those. Even if I did, I've got enough to win this baby because I got FJ correct.

N, secretary-general, Mississippi, Kansas, whale, Aragon, Sahara

$8600. Not enough for an unambiguous win since I missed Final, but if Ryan makes the lockout bet I win.

$6600 and missed FJ. Today is Thursday. I should have had more but I chickened out on the AVIATORS clue and clue not recall the baby -ette quickly enough.

I had $9,800 and missed FJ but I am claiming a win.

Would have still gotten Final even if asked for the two cities.

$11,600 + FJ, but like Ryan, I would have negged the first silent consonant one because I was not clear what they were looking for either.

First four and last three for me, for $7,800, and no FJ. In most other games with these standings and FJ results, I assume I win (my $7,800 - $1,401 beating $10,000 - $5,601), but Ryan likes to preserve a lock over one player even at the risk of being passed from behind by a closer player. If Tory still has $4,600 going into FJ, I'm not sure even a player in a closer second could goad him into falling below $9,200.

Got them all except whale and gave the whole word for “hymn”, misunderstanding the category. Probably would have clammed on aileron if I were on stage instead of my couch.

$8800 and also missed FJ. Even though I was familiar with the Churchill citation, just couldn't dredge up the two bodies of water. Doh!

$10,000 for me, so I tie Ryan going into FJ!. Unfortunately I miss FJ! with Baltic/Black and lose because I would have wagered some amount. If I've seen previous games, it would be a small wager, since Ryan goes for small ones, but any wager is too much.
