Re: Tuesday, June 14, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Mayim opened with talk of Eric being like Amy with 5/6 first games being runaways. Jinx!
I don't know what was worse--the two negs for RSPCA or Eric not being able to rebound it?
Eric leaves with one more category run in ISLES OF THE BRITISH ISLES.
Eric could not find a DD today and he needed one. The challengers bet lowish amounts going 2/3 and it was enough for the outcome to be in doubt.
1972 had me precall in order: Watergate, Truman (knew he died that year), Miami Dolphins (one could hope for sports), and J! favorite The Godfather
The clue had me knowing where to go with it. For the who I matched Megan as I was not going to spin a wheel of other names when I sensed it was better to go basic.
Megan knew what Eric was very likely to bet and she countered it. (Nothing against Megan) I like to imagine an alternate reality where Barry figures out Megan's strategy, solves the FJ! clue and wins with 17202.
Eric leaves 2/7 on the FJ! clues. Remember that when it comes time for sorting players in the TOC.

Re: Tuesday, June 14, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I matched Eric's response with John Dean. I sensed that going too basic was the trap to be avoided. Also, "Don't lie" sounds more like the advice the legal counsel would give. I would've expected the correct response figure to say, "Just lie".MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 1:45 pm The clue had me knowing where to go with it. What an absolute stinker of a FJ...
From this clue, how could anyone differentiate the correct response from Haldeman, Ehrlichman, Mitchell, Zeigler, Liddy, Hunt, et cetera, et cetera...
All these recent clunkers all seem to have the same problem, a complete lack of pinning. The only way to solve is just compiling a list of possible correct responses and throwing a dart. Not fun...

I like to imagine a reality where contestants know how to wager.MarkBarrett wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 1:45 pm Megan knew what Eric was very likely to bet and she countered it. Megan obviously forgot about Barry. But Barry made a truly laughable wager as he forfeited any chance of passing Eric, assuming Eric wagers rationally from the lead.
Was the FJ clue lacking? Yes. But I have two words for those that missed. Occam's Razor. And now those that missed probably have two words for me as well.

22/2, 20/4. I was so disappointed that someone got the last clue in 3 for the show.
I live for the day when an entire pop-culture category gets a stand-&-stare.
trash: RSPCA, lunch, death.
betting clues: How the hell is DD2 not negbait?
Swatted Kissenger away to get FJ! Not crazy about the clue, either.
It's just as well that Barry was wrong.

Yeah, as a life-long Floridian, this was pure WECIB.
The quoted above me will appreciate this story: I was golfing with my dad once when I was young and there was a water hazard on one hole that was just a canal running across the front of the green. While crossing it, we saw a group of about 4 manatees just drifting on through. Only time I've ever seen them in the wild. I imagine this occurrence would be even rarer nowadays.

Can anyone make sense of this clue?: "It follows a midday grace period (5 letters)".
I don't know what it's talking about, and it looked like none of the contestants knew either.

I don't think this ever happened to me. I considered only three names for FJ. Same as the 3 on stage. Thought the obvious one was too obvious 🫤
I was hoping Eric would ring in the last clue and take a guess. Lock was within reach.
Looked like there is some history with Megan and the DD poem.

Good enough to lose on Jeopardy!

Not sure, as I haven't seen it, but perhaps "lunch"? 'Grace period' being a pre-meal prayer?
Bounced between Agnew and Nixon. I chose poorly.

Yes, CLEVER CROSSWORD CLUES where I only got 2/5 playing along and then enjoyed the aha moments when archiving them later.ouachiouat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 6:01 pmNot sure, as I haven't seen it, but perhaps "lunch"? 'Grace period' being a pre-meal prayer?

Exactly. Haven't you heard of 'saying grace' before a meal?ouachiouat wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 6:01 pmNot sure, as I haven't seen it, but perhaps "lunch"? 'Grace period' being a pre-meal prayer?

He should have guessed any grunge band at the end of FJ.
There are two obvious ones. Then maybe a third. Anything else, oh well.

The Mt. Rushmore of grunge are more or less universally agreed to be Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Alice in Chains.danspartan wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 7:41 pm He should have guessed any grunge band at the end of FJ.
