Young people head shaker of the day. 1980 The Rose singer a TS.
Sarah was +6000 on DD2 and DD3 and still trailed for the FJ! round thanks to twice failing to find a place for Aston Martin. If Sarah had led and Steve trailed then I wonder how the wagering would have gone.
The FJ! category had me precall GWTW, Mockingbird and for fun's sake, Carrie.
The FJ! clue had me stumped as first thought of pick a Dan Brown work could not be so soon after the relevant clue from last week. Thinking 1991 had to be early, but wanting something on my paper, I wrote Celestine Prophecy after considering The Name of the Rose.
The correct response makes sense though it was not going to occur to me in 30 seconds. Give a female hint or TV hint and my chances improve.
3 wins for Megan with FJ! round wagering making a difference twice.
Steve, not knowing the FJ! clue, was in trouble with various scenarios of the what if game and even if he plays DD3 I don't know if he does enough to lock the match. What could have made the difference was a bigger lead that holds up even on a triple miss clue.

I wonder if a future player will take note of how Megan wagers and bet accordingly.
No chance on FJ for me.

I got to this FJ fairly easily, maybe due to some family members’ interest in the Netflix version of the book series. I was a bit nervous though, since I would have guessed the first book came out about 10 years later than 1991.

Not the slightest clue on this one. Left it blank.

Surprising mistake in the opening segment, where Mayim incorrectly stated that there have been no one game winners since the beginning of Mattea Roach's run. Mallory Kass won one game on May 10.

Re: Thursday, June 16, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I guessed Master and Commander which was only 22 years off. I guess I can't take any shots at Megan's guess of Wolf Hall, which was only 18. This is the kind of clue that produces really bad desperation guesses. Sarah's guess was the closest to 1991. Interview with the Vampire came out in 1994. Unfortunately, even if it had been correct, Sarah would not have received credit since she wrote "Interview with a Vampire". Ouch.

Ann Rice's novel came out in 1976. The movie came out in '94.opusthepenguin wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 9:04 pm I guessed Master and Commander which was only 22 years off. I kind of like the Wolf Hall guess, but Hilary Mantel wrote at least 9 novels before her Cromwell series...
"Moebius twist" because the characters go back and forth in time, right? I've sometimes thought of checking out the TV series, but there's so much of it...
The phrase appears on Gabaldon's own website, but the only place I'm seeing it used in a review is for the 8th and most recent book in the series (2013)-

I said The DaVinci Code, knowing full well that series won't be coming up again so soon...

It looked like Megan was explaining wagering theory to Mayim as the credits rolled. It's so satisfying to have a champion that is well versed on betting from 2nd or 3rd in this scenario, and get rewarded with another chance to play.MarkBarrett wrote: 3 wins for Megan with FJ! round wagering making a difference twice.

D'oh! That's what I get for Googling the phrase and taking less than a second to scan the results for a year.davey wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 10:47 pmAnn Rice's novel came out in 1976. Re: Thursday, June 16, 2022 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Great game. Sarah had the most buzz attempts but the lowest percentage. Steve didn’t miss once during the game. Megan makes a perfect FJ wager to win on the TS.
Sarah missing those last two clues was likely the deciding factor. She simply couldn’t put down a wager that equally locks out Megan on a get or a miss. Like many would do, she decided to lock out Megan on a potential get.
I love how Megan wagers though I always have in the back of my mind that humans can behave unpredictably. Is she better off wagering smaller to factor in that sometimes the other players make mistakes or simply don’t understand the art of wagering?
Here I am thinking of how the wagering would go if we had a game with Ryan and Megan playing. Ryan anticipated what other contestants might do. Megan wagers with exact precision.
Anyway, she is two wins away from locking in 12 5+ day champions, along with the college and professor winners with the SCT winner still to come. She would have to be the cutoff in this scenario, right?
