A little Yankee, not to mention NY, bias in the BASEBALL BABES? Second Friday in a row for one of the guys to be a correct response.

Both the scores for the FJ! round and the individual Coryats were in five figures for a good game to end the week.

I liked the PALINDROMIC NUMBERS category and nice by Jeff not to botch DD1 there.

The FJ! clue was a good one for me as in addition to insta-solving it I knew all the movies and all the women winners. Jeff loses even with a solve as Joe went for 22900 against a possible 22800.

Lauren did not play a DD and perhaps she could have won the game if she found DD3.

Mayim to close out June next week and signs point to her perhaps hosting two more weeks after that.

This FJ represents the basic Oscar knowledge a hopeful contestant should have.

For the bonus knowledge points, I knew all 3 movies but only 2 of the actresses as I always forget Louise Fletcher's name.

Babe Pinelli was also the home plate umpire in Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series.

Yes, this was a very easy FJ but it's the kind of clue that freezes me up and the only star I could think of was Eastwood, never a winner for acting. (Thank goodness!) Funny thing, I've heard Nicholson's name 2 or 3 times recently...(As in, Whatever happened to Jack Nicholson? And there was a night of his - not Eastwood's! - early westerns on TCM this week... )

Agreed, along with Presidents, Wonders of the World, basic country geography in western hemisphere and africa, however much mythology you can endure and crib notes from Shakespeare. As a non-contestant, I will only acquire Oscar information with one failed FJ at a time.

I thought the clue phrasing implied that he didn't win Best Actor in the three years, and some googling confirms he won the best supporting actor in 1983 Terms of Endearment. I considered Tom Hanks as being too late for 1975 and just picked Redford.

I wish there was a warning message before a Kar(redacted as they who must not be named) clue appears. I unwittingly heard a first name and now must suffer PKSD until I forget it.

I am pleasantly surprised that they didn't know the 303 clue. I'm exposed to way too much firearm porn on Quora.

Good game, credit to Mayim for catching the six-syllable answer quickly and decisively (and correctly :))

This clue intersects with an essential bit of Oscar trivia. Only three films have won the "big five" awards--that's Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Original/Adapted Screenplay. (That last one feels tacked on to me, but it's true that all three of them won one or the other.)
Spoiler
1934 It Happened One Night, Frank Capra, Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert
1975 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Miloš Forman, Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher
1991 The Silence of the Lambs, Jonathan Demme, Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster
Having that knowledge firmly in place, it was easy to recall who won Best Actor for 1975. Then I thought about 1983 and remembered he'd won Supporting Actor for the execrable Terms of Endearment. That threw me for a moment because I felt the clue strongly implied that the correct response won Best LEAD Actor. But if that was so, then there was no correct response since Jack won Best Lead for 1975 and didn't for 1983. So the clue must mean "for which he won an Oscar [of any sort]" and could technically be referring to the sound effects guy.

One maddening thing to watch out for when studying Academy Awards: half the web sites out there, including Google, will list the award by year awarded rather than by the year of the film. So if you Google <Best Picture 1991>, Google will tell you Dances with Wolves, which is the 1990 film that won Best Picture of 1990 at a ceremony held in 1991. You have to Google <Best Picture 1992> to get The Silence of the Lambs, the 1991 movie that won Best Picture for 1991 in 1992. On the other hand, if you Google <best MOVIE 1991>, you won't get Dances with Wolves because that movie came out in 1990. All clear? It's an asinine system that is contrary to the practice of the official Academy Awards web site. I've submitted multiple requests to Google to bring their practice in line with the Academy's, but no one listens to a penguin on the internet.

Product of its time, really. https://www.baseball-reference.com/sear ... &pid=&idx=

Ha. King Tut.

'In 'comparison'' was impressive work by the writers. All responses were 6+ letters and were really good on top of that. Doesn't feel like that's the norm for that type of category. (*waits for people with better search-fu to prove me wrong*)

Those, plus Cinematography and Art Direction Production Design are the only surviving original awards. It Happened One Night was also the first to win any 5 awards in the same ceremony, so...tradition?
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

That plus the fact that the two films that later won the big 4 also won Best Adapted Screenplay so it seemed fun to throw it in. If something ever wins those 4 but doesn't win for screenplay, I think we'll see the statistic get adjusted pretty quickly.

There has yet to be a Big 4 w/o script win tho, but there've been a few without one actor
GWTW, Mrs Miniver, and Annie Hall all missed on Best Actor while American Beauty missed Best Actress
(Also, the -16- 4 of 5s that lacked either a best actor or actress nomination entirely)

Million Dollar Baby was the closest (Picture/Director/Actress) and Eastwood got Dir. but not Actor

As well, it'd be very weird to somehow have both leads, director and a picture win -without- screenplay
