On FJ, I thought they were talking about the year the Oscars were awarded (which they have done before), felt good about Tom Hanks being in an early-80s teen comedy, so I didn't look back. Of course, I had some trouble coming up with a movie featuring Tom Hanks, Adrien Brody, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Is there one? (Hmm, unlikely, since Adrien Brody would have been at most nine years old.)

Not just one, but two: King Dong (high school student Brody writes a porno script that his mercenary buddy Hoffman is determined to film; they spot the good-hearted but simple-minded Hanks ("Woody") in the gym showers and try to convince him he has what it stakes to play the starring role), and Stalk to the Hand (transgender teen Hanks and prep-school pot dealer Hoffman try to convince their nerdy music-prodigy pal Brody to stop spending so much time playing on his organ and actually pursue the girl of his dreams (played by a young Halle Berry!)).

It is rather annoying that the J! writers are so inconsistent about this. It's not that hard to pick a policy and stick with it.

Personally, the FJ category had me licking my chops thinking they were talking about the earliest Oscars given out.

I anticipated the category as a before they were famous and thought it would be an early work of Spielberg or appearance of Jack Nicholson like his role in Ensign Pulver.

You mean like "Night Gallery" or "The Name of the Game"?

Ah, yes, I remember I got that one merely by remembering they named the professor on Futurama (Prof. Hubert J. Farnsworth) after the "inventor of television" (granted, ol' Philo doesn't have as clear (or as famous) a claim to inventing the television as Bell does for inventing the phone (and we won't even get into how so not clear his claim is))
I got it from Warehouse 13 -- the device they use to communicate with one another is the Farnsworth.
You mean nobody got it from this??--

WTEN did, apparently, as they re-aired Tuesday's DJ round in this game's stead. (They aired dark screen for the J round.)

I remembered his name (though it would have been more like a [buzz-in] "Who is Phylo...............(dangdangdang) FARNS[beepbeepbeep]WORTH!"

Don't ask me why it sticks, but the story of how he came up with concept of the rapidly-refreshing series of lines to create a TV picture from watching a field being plowed row-by-row does strike me as pure genius.

Not been a good FJ week for me...
Breakfast Club too, but knew that was wrong. Heck, I knew I could've ruled out all of Hughes' work.

If I had gotten to Sean Penn, I might have had a chance, but Cage and Whittaker were zero help at all (in fact, probably made things worse.) Just not enough time to process it all in 30 seconds.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Saw the photo of Lenny Bruce, thought "hey, that looks like Lenny Bruce, but this is a middle-of-the-category clue, so it's got to be somebody better-known than that." Clammed it, dammit.

I got FJ but only after initially guessing Breakfast Club. If I were a contestant, my screen would have been crowded:
Spoiler
What is The Breakfast Club? Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

FJ took me about 20 seconds or so, but I did come up with FTARH.
Didn't get Bruce, Thatcher was a bit of a guess. FJ was fairly quick for me, did not know Cage was in the movie, which part did he play? Penn was Spicolli, Whittaker was the football player.

That's because he was billed under his birth name, Nicolas Coppola.
No, it was because he had a very small part and his character didn't even have a name. Had he been billed under the name Cage, I still wouldn't have known it.

I know Muhammad Ali was in the Olympics even though he was called Cassius Clay in 1960.

I have seen him many times since he's more a fellow my own era, so I was able to name them both. Of course it helped that I almost associate Lenny and Margaret Thatcher anyway. I mean, their careers were so parallel, it's spooky, yes?

Well, they were both rebels and groundbreakers.

Second straight day I had no guess for FJ. I got 12 right in the first round but only 3 right for DJ and thus giving me a second straight day of 15 right.

I got Farnsworth at the last second, having first thouhgt of Vladimir Zworykin, then realizing that Vlad wasn't a yank.
Recognized Lenny Bruce but couldn't spit out his name.
First said Breakfast Club but changed to Fast Times in a timely fashion. Lucky lucky.

They had a Final J! a few years back that referenced Zworkin, so I thought of him for a second too. Vik Vaz game 3 reran on GSN recently from 11/30/2005. The clue referred to the Britannica article coming alphabetically last that was about a person and to name his invention. Vik was the only one to get it right, helping him win his third game.
