2012 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Round 4, Day 6

Post by DadofTwins »

Lots to do today, so we'd better get to it.

First off, I apologize for the delay. As I mentioned Friday, ministry duties have kept me away from the Boards for the last few days, so today I am playing catch-up. I'll be posting R5D1 and R5D2 as well as RQ's from Round 3 as the afternoon progresses. Stay tuned.

I also hope to get caught up on the R4 Instant Replay thread today, but there's a lot to do between now and then, so we'll see.

Off we go.

NOT THE ONE IN NEW JERSEY

2: Originally called Lewisburg, this Kentucky town was renamed after the capital of New Jersey in 1819.

4: This city, which shares its name with the most populous city in New Jersey, is home to the University of Delaware.

6: This Ontario city on the western point of Lake Erie was named for its founder, not the New Jersey town named for America's first Secretary of the Treasury.

8: This suburb of Adelaide founded in 1955 is named for the queen of England, but the same-named city in New Jersey is not.

10: Edward R. Morrow graduated from high school in the Washington town named for this inventor, also the current namesake of Raritan Township, New Jersey.

NEWSPAPER HISTORY

3: November 3, 1948 headline in the Chicago Tribune; the story by Arthur Sears Henning also reported that Republicans would control both houses of Congress – oops.

6: 4-word headline in the New York Times; article by John Noble Wilford, dateline Houston, July 21, 1969.

9: The June 29, 2012 Orange County Register's front page headline reported the Supreme Court giving this law a “Clean Bill of Health.”

12: This publisher of the New York Tribune and future Presidential candidate printed a “letter to the editor” from President Lincoln in the New York Tribune in August, 1862.

15: In this still-published Connecticut newspaper's July 8, 1776 edition, George Washington offered 10,000 acres of land to any British field officer who would switch sides.
