Stores
These stores first launched in 2001 take in more money per square foot than any other U.S. retailer, almost doubling Tiffany's.
SpoilerShow
What are Apple Stores? Martha crossed out Home Depot and said Best Buy; Amanda had no guess.

Stephanie Jass: $28,200+$2,370=$30,570...now a 2-day champion with $47,570
Amanda Burton: $6,600-$4,000=$2,600
Martha Warren: $6,000-$6,000=$0

Meh game for me. At least FJ was an instaget.

Is there soem reason I should know the state gem of Arizona with no hints whatsoever?

Another excellent game, Stephanie! I'm very impressed.

When I first read FJ! I felt it was too broad with no TOM. Then about halfway in the answer just hit and I knew I had it.

That's how I felt. Now if only The Apple Store will gift me with some products for being the only one that got it right! ;)

Well… this was the first game on which I didn't give any wrong answers.

What the heck was that Blitz thing they were talking about in London for $200? In fact, all of London was a total stand and stare for me. Also 0/5 on Animals on Car. Is there a reason I should know what the world's on a Peugeot when I can't even afford a 1998 Cavalier?

5/5 on Country. Wasn't sure if "anger" would be taken on Emotion for $600 or BMSed, so I clammed. Had a derp moment on Loathing since I was thinking "well, it could be fear" even though that didn't fit the rest of the clue.

Surprisingly, I ran "Nym". I remembered Retronym because it was a category before and Alex explained it.

Could that clue on Bacteria have been more obfuscated?

Retail's usually a wheelhouse for me, but I was totally lost on this one. I wouldn't have gotten Apple in a million years. "Tiffany's" was the red herring for me, and I was locked into jewelry and upscale clothing. Williams Sonoma? Caché? Brooks Brothers? Talbot's?

I was going to guess turquoise because I know it's a Native American thing and there are a lot of Native Americans in AZ, but I still clammed.

FJ was an instaget -- I've heard that piece of trivia several times.

Not really. Turquoise is pretty much found only in the SW in the US, but if you don't know that ...

Instaget FJ.

Congrats on #2, Stephanie (but why didn't you go all-in on the DD in the J round? :) )

FJ was an instaget for me, but only because I heard it somewhere recently. Though I can't quite recall where. Minds Over Matter, perhaps?

The way TPH figured it was how I got it. Turquoise is huge in the Navajo (Dine) flea markets in Arizona.

Congrats to Stephanie! First back-to-back champ since Erin. Great game all around, and it seems like Alex is/was really taken with you.

FJ I blanked on... my first guess was Super Walmart, but my wife --- a computer guru --- popped up with Apple Stores.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

FJ was almost an instant get for me but I wasn't super confident on it, partly because there was a FJ clue on Steve Jobs not too long ago.

I wasn't a fan of this board but it wasn't too hard. "Ghosts" was the only triple stumper that really surprised me.

I am enjoying watching Stephanie. I hope that she wins at least 3 more!

So, Stephanie, what was the significance of the FJ wager? Surely with your winnings you can afford to treat yourself to something there. FJ took me a couple of seconds before I remembered about that little factoid.

THis was only the third show out of 17 this season where both boards were completed.

Yes. If you don't, Stephanie will take your money and increase her lead.

"Apple stores" starts another streak for me, I hope, after yesterday's FJ interruption.
Another impressive win, DrJ!! (though I thought you might risk a tad more on FJ on that topic, with so much safety margin.)

Ran NYMS, but the clues were too easy, IMHO. Should've just put examples out there sans anymore words in the clue, provided Alex gives one of his "explanation" asides.
eg
COLD, CHILLY, COOL
FAST & SLOW
LASER, OPEC
SOUSAPHONE, LEOTARD
ACOUSTIC GUITAR

how about some for fun (but tougher!)
CB HANDLE, SCREENNAME
SILENCE DOGOOD, GEORGE ELIOT
GORILLA GORILLA
BAR = "ALL LAWYERS," ARM = "THROWING ABILITY"
LES PLACK, (DENTIST); EIKENBERRY (FUNERAL HOME)

ANSWERS:
SpoilerShow
PSEUDONYM
ALLONYM or ANONYM
TAUTONYM
METONYM
EUONYM
That last one you only get right if you screamed it out a letter at a time.

Not only do I NOT have any lifelong fantasies of saying, "Alex, I'd like to make this a true DD," there's something about the possibility of having $0 that deeply unsettles me. I've been wrong enough at home on both DD and FJs to be conservative in betting. And as someone who is hardly rolling in the dough ordinarily, that $ represented real dollars to me, so I just can't bring myself to wager that much if there's even a slight chance I could lose it. I'm NOT a gambler!! The final wager was a set of lucky numbers for me, and I didn't feel good enough about the category to bet bigger. Seriously, seeing $28,000 on the scoreboard and knowing that you can take that much home FOR SURE as opposed to potentially losing some trumps any bet in my book.

It took me a bit to get the FJ; I thought about what new-ish store would sell expensive products, and eventually I figured it out. (Love me some Apple Store, especially now!!)

Congrats again Stephanie, keep it going. I feel like I should get some sort of "Finders fee" since I started the streak ... right? 8-)

4/5 in Goin' Country the music one and 2/5 in the geography one. I was hammered on looking at the face and not being able to place it as Billy Ray Cyrus.

Animals on cars? Getting out with $200 is one better than I would have expected. Players have to come in with enough previous knowledge to handle that one as anyone who prepared for that has way too much time on their hands.

Should petrified tree have been acceptable for the DD? Amanda gets $2000 instead of $1000, so she's not complaining. I'm sure Martha wishes it had been negged.

Jeopardy! is not as easy as Stephanie is making it look. Great back to back wins with strong play while being a good TV contestant also must have the CC staff very proud.

The FJ category reveal had me thinking Mall of America and wondering if that was still the name. In staying with malls I knew I would not know the name of the one in Edmonton. When the clue was revealed even a PC guy like me knew he had seen the fact previous times every time Apple releases some new gizmo. Those stories get a lot of play locally.
