CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS
Alex: Julia Levine is a young lady who has been a long-time Jeopardy! fan. Am I correct?
Julia: Yes.
Alex: To what extent?
Julia: I insisted on being called Alexa Trebeka when I was playing games, like, if you have to pick a name as a child.
Alex: So instead of playing house or playing post office or playing with your dolls, it was jeopardy!
Julia: Yeah, exactly.
Alex: Good for you. You're here today.
Alex: Douglas Beeler, fertilizer market manager from Virginia. Good things happen in bunches. You got the call to be on our show the same day what other things happened?
Douglas: That's right. When it rains, it pours in the Beeler family. I found out that one of my brothers-in-law was coming back from Afghanistan from his nine-month deployment.
[ applause ]
Alex: All right.
Douglas: And my other brother-in-law had just won a local election for prosecuting attorney.
Alex: Okay. So now you've got to outdo them by winning this game.
Douglas: I have big shoes to fill.
Alex: All right. Good.
Alex: Amy Nienaber from Bettendorf, Iowa. Young lady likes to visit state capitols. Okay, there are 50 of them. How many have you visited?
Amy: Well, I --I could say 50, because I've only --I've been to at least the outside of every capitol. I couldn't get in some of them 'cause they were closed.
Alex: Oh.
Amy: There's a couple.
[ loud laughter from audience member ]
[ audience laughter ]
Alex: Sometimes they're closed on a weekend. Boy, we have strange political types out here.

HANDLING SOME T-N-T $800: To sully or tarnish

Julia: $6,200
Douglas: $1,000

Love a rowdy audience. What does an aspiring student do?
Champ's awkward but pretty good. I don't think Alex does a great job at lightening the tension when there's a contestant who looks uncomfortable- his giggle at her DD wager is a case in point. Nice job by the ladies today.

We get to see Larissa again next week, but I think we just might have the second coming of her in Amy. She reminds me a lot of Larissa... I'll be interested to see if she can keep up her impressive play when she comes back.
BUT NOW IT'S TIME TO FOCUS ON NEXT WEEK OMGMGMGMG I'M SO EXCITED. Seriously this is the most excited I have ever been for Jeopardy. I. CAN'T. WAIT.

Ex-dental hygienist? What?
20 in J, 19 in DJ for me. No chance on FJ- I've never heard of that film.
Someone the uptalkers!

Had I been in Amy's shoes, if I didn't know the idiot in the audience, I would have called him out in a seriously obscene way. Taping definitely would have been halted. One of the many reasons I rarely pay attention to the interviews.
But she played an excellent game, she probably should have wagered more on the final DD to basically ensure a lock, but well done nonetheless.

Also said Dr Zhivago . Never would have come up with Reds.
Julia looked like she was about to throw up every time she responded.

Amy was excellent again today. Perhaps it's the start of a long winning streak for her.
Picked up Lach trash: "taint" and "latent heat"
Didn't get FJ. Guessed "Dr. Zhivago" instead.

What did they say? I'm away from home and had to watch without my DVR.Golf wrote:Had I been in Amy's shoes, if I didn't know the idiot in the audience, I would have called him out in a seriously obscene way. I got it right, but if I'd been the lady on the end where I was finishing second no matter what and forced to bet small, I'd have written down Rocky IV.
She could have bet bigger on the last DD, but it was a odd ball category and no reason to risk the lock?

Re: Friday, March 28, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
FJ had me thinking of everything under the sun, including Dr Zhivago and - yikes - Hunt for Red October (best actress in that movie eh? dummy), and it was probably that last train of thought that led me to the right answer with 2 seconds to spare ("ugh come on, think....Russia...Soviet...Communist...oh wait, Reds!").
Off to basketball, as soon as i finish heatedly searching for the remote (does anyone use that word like that? Never seen/heard it used that way myself).

Re: Friday, March 28, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Don't know what was said, just know that if you're not on stage, you don't say a friggin' thing out loud. But whatever it was certainly was not positive judging by the reactions of both Amy and Alex. The audience is not a part of the game, they are merely spectators.Bamaman wrote:What did they say? Taping definitely would have been halted. One of the many reasons I rarely pay attention to the interviews.
But she played an excellent game, she probably should have wagered more on the final DD to basically ensure a lock, but well done nonetheless.
I got it right, but if I'd been the lady on the end where I was finishing second no matter what and forced to bet small, I'd have written down Rocky IV.
She could have bet bigger on the last DD, but it was a odd ball category and no reason to risk the lock?
She wasn't risking the lock, she didn't have a lock.

I thought I was going to know FJ when it was revealed and slap myself. Nope. Heard of Reds but barely.
Funny seeing Amy going for the conservative reading list category, and twice Julia getting it and racing away from the category.

They were looking for a word in a Tom Swift quote, so probably not.silverscreentest wrote:Would "heartlessly" have been acceptable?
