The level of competition this week has been unreal. It's really entertaining to watch.

Re: Friday, June 13, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
North Korean constitution!? WTF does it say? "The rights of our Dear Leader to execute random people and starve the populace shall not be abridged???
What's with all the TV categories lately? I'm not complaining, just...surprised.
Instaget FJ. I have no idea why this was a TS. If more than one or two people say they recognized the name I'd be stunned. The significant info was the date, and what happened in '79 that we wouldn't send another ambassador? Thus I'm not sure where 'Zaire' came from.

Count me as surprised too at the FJ triple stumper. East Germany was a particularly bad guess.
Re: Friday, June 13, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
A guy named Whitney? Once again with the gender/name mismatch... (Says the very obviously male who somehow gets "Bobbie" every time...)
Man, my brain was slow today. I knew "The Real World", "All in the Family", "War and Peace", "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", "On the Road", and "Constitution" among others, but couldn't get any of them to my mouth in time.
Hampton Inn kept me from the run in Franchises. Embarrassing miss since motel brands are another one of my retail obsessions. I went "Howard Johnson's — no, that's Wyndham. Holiday Inn — no, the clue said it's not Holiday Inn. Hilton — no, that's in the clue too. Argh, what am I missing?!" To be fair, I don't think I've ever stayed at a Hampton Inn, because they're too expensive.
At least the miss on "oratory" in "O" was understandable since I didn't even know that was a word.
I thought the Martin Luther King Day clue was undervalued at $200.
0/5 in Royalty and Holidays, although I bet it wouldn't have been such if my brain had been working today.
Cohesion was overvalued at $2000. That was my only miss, too. No applause for Whitney running the category?
"Wait, ushers aren't performers too. What the hell are they talking about? Oh, THAT Usher." I got the bottom three, and "assure" was the only one I outright didn't have.
You mean New York isn't the only place in the world that has boroughs?!?
Could this FJ! have had any less of a TOM?! This seems like a very "so what" clue to me.

I went with North Vietnam, too.
According to IMDb, Sajak has hosted 5985 episodes of WoF.

Excellent game by Katie and Whitney up until FJ.
Picked up Lach trash: "Flag Day", "Wales", "East Rutherford"
Instaget FJ. I thought that at least one of the contestants would get this one.
I found it interesting that three of the clues involved items I had in the Think Different game (194) that I just finished hosting: "David Brinkley," "Thomas Mann," and "Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr." (holiday).

Also, kudos to Katie for not making the all-in suicide wager. I wonder if 10000 was just a nice round number, or if she was aware of how much she could safely bet without falling behind Whitney's MSBIW.
(yeah yeah, I know...)

That count is way behind, because nighttime alone went over 6,000 recently, and then there's daytime on top of that.econgator wrote:According to IMDb, Sajak has hosted 5985 episodes of WoF.

Ok. Not sure if they;ll count Daytime in with that, though. Do they consider those separate shows?TenPoundHammer wrote:That count is way behind, because nighttime alone went over 6,000 recently, and then there's daytime on top of that.econgator wrote:According to IMDb, Sajak has hosted 5985 episodes of WoF.

I was watching with my Dad, and as it happened he recognized the name but couldn't come up with the country. I had no clue on the name, but with the date of 1979 I couldn't think of what else it would be other than Iran.xxaaaxx wrote: Instaget FJ. I have no idea why this was a TS. How was that a TS FJ???
Was pulling for Whitney after the DD-seeking/TDD move. He didn't exactly go back to it, but that speaks to how hard it is to maintain that focus, I guess. Katie seemed to adjust to it, too, which is a good sign for her future games.

Was watching at my parents' house and my mom said South Vietnam, figuring he may have had other posts after Saigon fell. I zeroed in on the date and had the correct response.

We cut off relations with Taiwan ROC around then but I was certain it was Iran. I was also pretty sure that at least the two on the ends would get it. Humiliating!

What I want to know is: Who did Alex replace as the record holder?

Re: Friday, June 13, 2014 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I instagot Iran for FJ then nearly as instantly thought oops... it could be Taiwan ROC too. Then I was really glad I wasn't there. But the contestants nonplussed me by not giving either plausible answer.
What is Trebek's Guinness record? It seems to me that Bob Barker should be the record holder. Or did Trebek just break Barker's record? Either way, it seems that Sajak should have hosted more WOF than Trebek has Jeopardy! since WOF began its current run the year before the current run of J! began. Or does WOF do more summer reruns? You can tell that whatever this record is needs more explanation.
I wonder who has hosted the all-time number of game show episodes? I'm thinking that must be Barker because he hosted Truth or Consequences for about 20 years and then TPIR for 34.

I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.
