SONGS & SONGWRITERS

2: Ryan Tedder, founder and lead vocalist of One Republic, wrote “Turning Tables” and “Rumor Has It” for her album 21.

4: He originally wrote the Bangles hit “Manic Monday” and “The Glamorous Life,” later recorded by Sheila E., for Apollonia 6, a girl group he tried to form.

6: The title of this Kenny Rogers/Dolly Parton duet written by the Bee Gees came from a posthumously-published Ernest Hemingway story.

8: Sir Mix-A-Lot, Cee-Lo Green, and Busta Rhymes all have writing credits on “Don't Cha,” the 2005 breakout hit for this girl group fronted by Nicole Scherzinger.

10: This song, James Taylor's only Billboard #1 hit, was written by Carole King and also recorded on her album Tapestry.

DICKENS SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

3: “The chain he drew . . . was made of cash-boxes, keys, padlocks, ledgers, deeds, and heavy purses wrought in steel.”

6: She “was wrapped in fur, and had a quantity of bright shawl twine about her, though not to the concealment of her large ear-rings. Her knitting was before her, but she had laid it down to pick her teeth with a toothpick.”

9: She “was dressed in rich materials — satins, and lace, and silks — all of white. Her shoes were white. And she had a long white veil dependent from her hair . . . But, I saw that everything within my view which ought to be white, had been white long ago, and had lost its luster, and was faded and yellow.”

12: The servant of Arthur Pickwick, who said, ““Vich I call addin’ insult to injury, as the parrot said ven they not only took him from his native land, but made him talk the English langwidge arterwards.”

15: From The Old Curiosity Shop: “The creature appeared quite horrible with his monstrous head and little body, as he rubbed his hands slowly round, and round, and round again – with something fantastic even in his manner of performing this slight action.”
