2014 Summer Hiatus Challenge -- Tournament of Champions, Day 6

Post by DadofTwins »

One of the biggest frustrations I've had over the years during SHC season is the unpredictable nature of my work. Being a minister means my physical presence is only really required 5 hours per week, but I'm on call for 163, and I never know which (or how many) of those 163 I might have already allotted for doing something else are going to be needed at any given time.

That said, I apologize for the delays this weekend.

Here is SHC TOC Day 6. I'll get completed days scored today, and as soon as I get this batch scored we'll have the medal ceremony.

KLLING CAESARS

2: Nickname of the second Gaius Julius Caesar, who like his predecessor was stabbed 30 times by conspirators led by a man named Cassius.

4: This emperor, third in the Year of the Four Emperors, was dragged out of hiding and killed on the infamous Gemonian Stairs.

6: This western emperor drowned in the Tiber River during the Battle of Milvian Bridge.

8: One account of this emperor's demise is that he burned to death inside a peasant's cottage after losing the Battle of Adrianople.

10: Persian king Shapur I captured this emperor at the Battle of Edessa, then according to one account had him killed, skinned, and stuffed as a trophy.

BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER A BROADWAY MUSICAL

3: Broadway musical based on a Seurat painting that nerds everywhere hope will eventually finish the next Game of Thrones novel* who was President during the Aroostook War.

6: Radio and TV comedy series starring Robert Young for which Dolly Parton recorded the single “Hard Candy Christmas” at the company that produced the first integrated circuit computer.

9: Rogers & Hammerstein adaptation of a novel by C. Y. Lee in which the daughters of Jerusalem are a chorus for two young lovers who, in a nursery rhyme, died on Saturday and was buried on Sunday.

12: Title song of a Bobby Vinton album that won the first Tony award for Best Musical and an Emmy for playing the title role in Mildred Pierce.

15: Sondheim title character killed by Toby who is often asked by Gary Coleman “What 'chu talkin' 'bout” in a Robert James Waller novel about a lonely woman in Iowa.

    They that have done this deed are honorable;
What private griefs they have, alas, I know not,
That made them do it. They are wise and honorable,
And will, no doubt, with reasons answer you.
