Well, I know what TPH's Lach Trash / SaotD was ...
Blew Final, figured I wouldn't have had much of a shot (would have wagered Venutianally were I on the show), WAGged Medusa (hey at least I was closer than they were! What was the actual Greek root they were hinting at?), I'm guessing there will be a thing or two to say about the wagers.
For some reason our new champ reminds me of the typical 80s era Jeopardy! contestant.

Lach Trash: Brad Paisley, elephant, Joss Whedon (note to self: watch Buffy and Firefly)
Paul Simon kept me from the 5/5 in Hit Men.
Somehow I can manage to forget the category within the span of the clue being read, as I locked up on Jekyll vs. Hyde. Pick the one that fits the category, moron.
Although I got it, I thought the elephant clue could've used a TOM.
Cook = Hawaii. Forgot that yet again. Also couldn't remember Ponce de Leon.
What led to Montgomery on Capitols for 800 or Boston on Aviation for 400?
Why should I know those two shoe designers?
TV was a disappointing "name the actor". Was hoping for something more esoteric like You're in the Picture, Pink Lady and Jeff, Cop Rock, Fish Police...
NHO Medea. Had no guess at all.

This was a pretty good game up until FJ. Andy won with only $1,599, but a win's a win. I had 33 correct responses including four triple stumpers: corrosion, attitude, Montgomery, and Oklahoma City. I didn't get FJ; guessed Medusa instead.

My girlfriend said Medusa, I had Circe, briefly second guessed myself with Medea, but stuck with my original. I'm curious about the root too. I don't see anything in the clue other than randomly name a mythological Greek sorceress. I went with what I thought was the best known one.dhkendall wrote:Well, I know what TPH's Lach Trash / SaotD was ...

I found this etymology: from Latin Medea, from Greek Medeia, literally "cunning," related to medos "counsel, plan, device, cunning."

27 right.
Mr. (2), Science (1), This (3), Hit (2), Too (5), "Shoe" (1)
State (4), Award (1), Avia (2), "Ess" (1), TV (4), Nice! (1)
Lach Trash: "elephant", "Montgomery", "Oklahoma City"
I went with Circe as well.

Found the game surprisingly tougher than last week games. Another circe here~ I already see it as an additional question in weekly poll.

Add me for Medusa. Mythology's a weak point for me, so I figured I wasn't getting it anyway.
Congrats to the new champ for winning a whopping $1,599. For some reason, I always get a kick when champs win that little.
Is it just me, or did Alex say Josh Whedon for that Bram Stoker DD?

Looking at thesaurus.com's entry for "to plot" or "to scheme", I don't see any English word that is derived from the Greek root. I thought of Medea but, having no compelling reason to abandon my first instinct, stuck with Circe.

I said Circe. My daughter said Hecate. I figured it had to be one or the other. Medea is more often referred to as an "enchantress," whereas Circe is usually called a "sorceress."

Confusing a P-51 Mustang with a B-52? Ouch!
I saw the FJ clue in this morning's NYT, and after some time of Googling, could only come up with Circe.
Which was wrong.

Re: Monday, February 16, 2015 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
So disappointed at Karen for losing on a triple-stumper. I thought she would instead be the victim of an easy FJ, once she lost the lead late in the game. It turned out the leader had the game won on either a triple-get or a TS, based on the all or nothing wagers by the ladies.
With the No-Ties rule in place, I just can't see going all in from 2nd place any more.
The two bad misses in the aircraft category was what really did Karen in. Since she (obviously) didn't know the difference between a P-51 and a B-52, then she had no business buzzing in on that. And no, aircraft carriers don't fly.

What, the wagering Vikings haven't weighed in yet???
Count me as a Circe. Horrible boards for me; I have no idea why.
