I went to Reddit, but could not find the thread in question, so I have no idea what this is about. Probably for the best.

Two thoughts; I see a resemblance of Chandreyi in a famous painting. Any guesses?

Mark: I'm wondering if you can provide an option of "I guessed Anna on Wednesday"? (Had the right movie, wrong character. To be fair, had Elsa for most of the time until I thought it was less likely to have been on decades ago).
IMHO this was a coin flip, what was to pin it to Elsa over Anna?

Anna has always been relatively common.dhkendall wrote:Mark: I'm wondering if you can provide an option of "I guessed Anna on Wednesday"? (Had the right movie, wrong character. To be fair, had Elsa for most of the time until I thought it was less likely to have been on decades ago).

Anna is also gaining ground, tough not at the pace of the name Elsa. But BabyCenter said this is probably because Anna was already pretty popular. It was ranked 37 last year and has crept up to 35.

The Jeopardy! writers give birth to bad clues via the Lamasery Method
While it doesn't affect the fact that the clue was very poorly worded (gee, another sloppily-written clue. Who'd have expected that from the Jeopardy! writers?), those really, really well versed in Frank Capra's 1937 movie adaptation (a Columbia Picture. It's odd that they didn't show a clip, since Sony owns the film and Jeopardy! never seems to miss an opportunity to cross-pollinate its parent's brand) might remember that when the film was re-released in 1942, with a new "timely" war-themed prologue added, but also a significant amount of original footage deleted, the studio decided to re-title the film "The Lost Horizon of Shangri-La."hbomb1947 wrote:silverscreentest wrote:MarkBarrett wrote:silverscreentest wrote:The clue asked for a novel written by James Hilton and the correct response was "What is Shangri-La?" Here's my question re the Shangri-La discussion: would it be weird if, for example, a parent said they named their child Holden after The Catcher in the Rye? I think I'd be permissive with that phrasing, and while the clue/response could be inferred as asserting the novel was named "Shangri-La," I'm not convinced that the writers actually thought that was the case.

Casual conversations and a television quiz shows have different standards. The clue could have been fixed by just saying it came from a location in a James Hilton novel. I'm going to read my favorite Jane Austen novel now - Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy.seaborgium wrote:Here's my question re the Shangri-La discussion: would it be weird if, for example, a parent said they named their child Holden after The Catcher in the Rye?
