OPENING REMARKS
Alex: Thank you, Johnny. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Hi, folks, and welcome to our show once again. You gotta figure that $15,900 for one win is impressive when you consider that Ken did not come up with the correct response to Final Jeopardy! yesterday. CONTESTANT INTERVIEWS

Alex: Ricky Young is a tax consultant from Oregon who's on the spot right now, ladies and gentlemen...

Ricky: Yes.

Alex: ...because when you first tried out for our program, you made a promise to some of your friends. Do you remember what that promise was?

Ricky: I sure do, Alex. I, uh, I made a promise that if I made it onto Jeopardy! I would get a tattoo of a certain game show host.

[Laughter]

Ricky: Alex Trebek.

Alex: And have you done this?

Ricky: Not yet. I, uh... it was college when I first tried out, so, um...

[Laughter]

Alex: Well...

Ricky: We say a lot of silly things.

Alex: Yeah. Let me try to make you feel a little better. I release you from any obligation whatsoever.

Ricky: Thank you. [Laughs]

Alex: I do not want to wind up on your belly.

[Laughter]

Ricky: Thanks.

Alex: Kim Rohrer from ossining, New York. Once competed in the national adult kickball championship.

Kim: That's right.

Alex: What's that like?

Kim: Uh, it's surprisingly competitive. I recommend it. It's a great sport to join if you wanna meet a lot of people, have a lot of fun. There's something really satisfying about catching that big red ball. Just takes you back to childhood. And, uh, it was a good--it was a good time to go out there.

Alex: Get a lot of your aggression out.

Kim: That's right. It's a good, uh... after a long day of work, you can definitely go out and play some kickball and have a lot of fun.

Alex: Okay.

Alex: Ken Sansone is our champion. He's an assistant attorney general. Do you guys get to specialize in any one area? Corporate problems or criminal law? How does it work in the, uh, Attorney General--

Ken: Yeah, we do. We have various bureaus. And I'm in the Civil Bureau, so mostly what I do is represent the state in civil litigation.

Alex: For white collar criminals?

Ken: No, I have nothing to do with white collar criminals.

Alex: No?

Ken: Nor am I one.

[Laughter]

Alex: [Chuckles] I wasn't accusing you. I don't do that on this show.

JEOPARDY! ROUND DAILY DOUBLE
Kim found the Daily Double on the 25th clue. Ken had $2,200, Kim had $3,400, and Ricky was at $5,400. Kim wagered $800.

7 UP $1000: When the G7 economic group was formed in 1976, this was its only Asian country
(Kim: [Exhales] Uh, what is China?)

TRIPLE STUMPERS IN THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
THERE'S CHEMISTRY BETWEEN US $200: Chemically, this stimulant is the principal alkaloid of coca leaves
(Ken: What is caffeine?)

THERE'S CHEMISTRY BETWEEN US $1000: A boiling dilute acid breaks down starch into a simple sugar called this
(Ken: What is sucrose?)

SCORES AT THE END OF THE JEOPARDY! ROUND
Ricky: $6,600
Kim: $4,400
Ken: $2,200

Kim had good knowledge base and good buzzer timing, but had less than zero clue how to play the game. First wagering $800 on a DD, and of course not ringing in on the last clue. Especially on a 50/50 where the other option had been eliminated! And then she said she knew it? Holy crap.

Interesting numerology during the game. 2200-4400-6600 going into DJ. Then at one point 4200-8400-16800.

A well-played game from Ricky.

Congrats to Ricky on his win. I had 44 correct responses including these triple stumpers: cocaine, glucose, Queen Victoria, rhododendron, and enlightenment. I also got the missed DD of Japan, and I got FJ.

It's so cute that they still think it's a surprise when the 5th clue is different from the first four.

For FJ...you already know. I hate being reminded of that ugly thing.

Watching Kim not ring in on that final clue in DJ!... I'm guessing she wasn't quite aware of the spot she was in. At least Ricky got FJ! right, so she'd have lost anyway.

I ruled out the Yankees because I thought they had a mascot and ended up guessing the Royals. After the reveal I connected the "dandy" hint, and then realized that I was thinking of Mr. Met.

I feel a sudden kinship with the guy who said Auburn instead of Alabama.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Whatever Ken did on the buzzer yesterday did not work today with different opponents. It's no fun when it happens although occurring on day 2 helps ease the sting.

Great debut Ricky in a quick game with 61 clues not in doubt plus there was time for full credits.

From a post in the 5/7/15 game thread:

Yeah, I got this FJ, and at first, I thought that I was getting it based on word-association from "dandy", but then I thought: Wait a second... This has come up on these boards before. That's why I was able to get it so quickly.

I figured Dandy must have been a hint, but I just didn't make the connection. I went with the A's because I could have sworn they had some kind of mustached guy logo. It's possible I'm remembering Rollie Fingers. :)

edit: I think this is the logo I was remembering. Just had the team wrong.

I've seen the movie "The World's Fastest Indian" which is the only reason I knew the DD.

If they asked which MLB mascot is the #1 mascot in the world, I know that one: Mr. Met. :)

Thanks, I was wondering where I had first seen that. After I read that post last year, I searched for other pictures of Dandy, and found...

I thought they might also ask for the easternmost US state in that category.

What a fast game! Congrats, Rick(y)!
