Alex: Jonathan Capehart, you write for The Washington Post. You're no stranger to controversy. You've participated in sit-ins and things of that ilk. Are we becoming a more questioning society? And if we are, are we questioning the right things in America today?

Jonathan: Um, absolutely, I think we're becoming a more questioning society. Uh, social media has made it possible for folks to question me and Kate in real time while we're on the air or when things are published immediately. So yes, people are questioning. And that's a good thing.

Alex: Okay, now tell me about your charity, please.

Jonathan: So I'm playing for Sasha Bruce Youthwork. It's an organization here in Washington, D.C.

[Applause]

Jonathan: Uh, and it's an organization that improves the lives of homeless, runaway, abused, and neglected youth and their families, like I said, right here in Washington, D.C.

Alex: Okay, good for you.

Jonathan: Thank you.




Alex: Kate Bolduan.

Kate: Yes, sir.

Alex: Your co-host on CNN's morning show...

Kate: Mm-hmm.

Alex: ...appeared once on Celebrity Jeopardy! and I believe he won the game.

Kate: Did quite well.

Alex: Did--does that make for extra pressure on you here today?

Kate: Of course! Because if I would do well, we could be the Jeopardy! champions of TV news.

Alex: Okay, now tell me about your charity, please.

Kate: My charity is near and dear to my heart. It's Free Arts NYC. And through it, they--we provide underserved children and families, um, assistance through arts and educational programs, and mentoring through arts and education programs.

Alex: Good for you.

Kate: Thank you.

Alex: Louie C.K., you've won six Emmys, a Peabody, a SAG Award for your groundbreaking scripted comedy. You do great standup. I'm just wondering who were some of your inspirations?

Louie: Uh, Richard Pryor, I loved growing up, and George Carlin. Uh, Woody Allen for the filmmaking, and Alex Trebek is one of my biggest inspirations.

[Laughter]

Alex: I'm a real funny guy.

Louie: Yeah.

Alex: All right, tell me about your charity.

Louie: So the Fistula Foundation--

Alex: Ah.

Louie: --is a group of people who help women in poor countries who have been injured in childbirth, and it helps them get the medical attention they need and get them back on their feet.

Alex: That's not a well-known charity.

Louie: No, it's not.

Alex: Good for you.

Louie: That's why I'm here.

Alex: All right.

When Louis hit the last Daily Double, I was saying to the TV, "this is the last clue - come on Louis, $5000, put it away." When his $399 on Final appeared, my first thought was that Vermonter said in yesterday's video he was looking forward to Louis's appearance - and he won't be disappointed.

As much time as it ate up, I did laugh at Kate's ad-lib.

Cape was my first run in this tournament.

Deep Thoughts was complete guesswork IMO. No way are you getting any of those without context.

I predicted that I would not even have a guess on this FJ! NHO the correct response.

$34,600 (43/1) and a lucky guess on FJ about 20 seconds in. I could see that clue going 1/3 on a regular episode.
The first round was pretty bad, but they finally figured out how to play in DJ. Some of those triple stumpers were quite painful (they didn't get Chile after Argentina was eliminated? Sigh.)
I wish the Power Players would get regular boards. Most of them would finish in the red, but it might prove to everyone that regular Jeopardy requires real skill.

Before the game started, I was not only sure that Louis CK would win it, but that he would lock it, too. This, despite not being a fan of his stand-up.

Why? Because in interviews and documentaries, CK comes across as a reasonably intelligent, well-read individual. I had no familiarity with the other two, but if there is anything the first two Power Player games proved, it's that talking heads in the media are dumb as rocks.

Also, someone who reports on political news missing that FJ is absolutely shameful.

As for my performance, there were 3 clues on the first board I didn't answer correctly, and 5 on the Double Jeopardy board. So however many clues were read minus 8 correct total. And of course, FJ was another instant get.

Also, that Louis L'Amour clue amused me greatly, since I read extensively about his life last month.

It's crazy to think that someone who sold about 300 million novels during his lifetime and died not too long ago is practically unknown today.

What would be the point? To be spiteful?

Any regular viewer is aware how "special" these type of events are.

These celebs didn't come up thru the ranks, didn't go to regional qualifiers, and probably aren't ardent viewers. They're doing it for fun, for the publicity, and to raise money for their charities. And for the most part, they're being good sports about it. Even when they clearly are screwing up.

Give 'em a break, and let them enjoy it.

Having said that, Tuesday's show was the most painful J I've seen in years...

So not counting the FJ! clue that is 50 clues played. Anyone with 50R, that's a perfecto. Congrats.

When I saw the FJ! category I tried to recall Scalia and the current 8. I failed that civics exercise in being unable to recall Stephen Breyer. When I saw the clue I knew it was Kennedy for sure as that came up a lot in the news earlier this year.

I'm glad the D.C. Daily Double was not the FJ! clue as I'm not sure I get Alexandria. It was definitely a fail with only DD time.

Yes, nice to see Louie put the game away with guts on his DD.

Just got home after bar trivia tonight and watched this episode. 2 of our 18 questions tonight were somehow, improbably, also Jeopardy clues. Same info, same expected responses. My mind was blown.

That was fun! I, too was home saying "C'mon Louis! Bet big!" That was great!

I have a lot of love for Louis CK. I live in Staten Island and just after Hurricane Sandy he rented a local theater and did two shows back to back, donating every dollar of the gross ticket sales to local relief efforts. He covered the overhead out of his own pocket. Then he talked Chris Rock into coming out here to open for him. He also gave tickets to people who had losses in the storm. I honestly think he's a genuinely generous guy, and he put on a great show.

I had no familiarity with the other two, but if there is anything the first two Power Player games proved, it's that talking heads in the media are dumb as rocks.

A) The fact that someone does not excel at Jeopardy does not mean they are dumb.
