Alex: Jeremy Eaton is a graduate student and instructor from Maryland who recently taught a class in something that has to do with superheroes. What exactly were you teaching?
Jeremy: That's right. So I'm a physics instructor at UCI and I just recently taught an online course teaching all about the physics and science of superheroes. So it was a good way to teach people about science by showing--
Alex: Give me an example of something.
Jeremy: So we can teach all about Newton's laws by showing how Batman punches bad guys.
Alex: Pow!
Jeremy: Exactly.
[Laughter]
Alex: Okay.
Alex: Lincoln Hamilton is a writer from Texas.
Lincoln: Yes.
Alex: Uh, now there's a bit of information here that I find a little hard to believe.
[Lincoln laughs.]
Alex: You were frightened by nightmares as a child, right?
Lincoln: Yes, I was.
Alex: And that inspired you to do some reading. What kind of reading?
Lincoln: I read the Encyclopaedia Britannica by the age of 6. Uh... uh...
Alex: How many volumes? All of it?
Lincoln: Yeah, 26 or 27, you know. I think a couple of them were split.
Alex: Uh-huh.
Lincoln: But yeah, the reason I was having--well, I was having nightmares about wolves. And my parents realized that the fear was based in not understanding about wolves. So they cracked open the encyclopedia and read the wolves about me, and I thought, "Learning's really cool." And so I kept at it.
Alex: 26 volumes. Did you retain any of that information?
Lincoln: Well, not--not a lot of it right now.
[Laughter]
Alex: But you're here.
Lincoln: True.
Alex: You're here.
Alex: Kelly Bayles is a librarian. She is our champion.
Kelly: Yes.
Alex: And she has started a collection of special autographs.
Kelly: Yes, I'm a big Star Trek: The Next Generation fan.
Alex: Ahh.
Kelly: So I've got, um, so far, I have Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, and Michael Dorn. So I'm working on the rest of the cast, so... Sir--Sir Patrick Stewart is kind of the golden goose of the--
Alex: Well, you know, he shows up at some of these Star Trek conventions.
Kelly: Yes. Yeah.
Alex: So you should be able to get--
Kelly: Maybe some day.
Alex: Okay, well, good luck in that.

Ahhhh, African. What a beautiful language.
Re: Friday, June 3, 2016 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Missed most of J! round because sister's U-verse is acting up. And then it froze up 3 clues from the end of DJ!, only to come back during the credits.
I amused my sister by showing her that I can sing "Amazing Grace" to the Pokemon theme. Then when she pointed out that the lyrics kind of fit thematically, I cracked up.
What was the response to the Bob Oedenkirk clue? That's where my connection froze.

Congrats to Kelly on her third win. I had 46 correct responses including these triple stumpers: Cheyenne, George H.W. Bush, and charitable trusts. I also got the missed Daily Doubles of beautiful/spacious and detached retina. Didn't get FJ; I'd never heard of Jamba Juice.

Add that to the "NHOI in the top box" pile.econgator wrote:Better Call SaulTenPoundHammer wrote:What was the response to the Bob Oedenkirk clue? That's where my connection froze.

Wow... after that J round on Wednesday, she is really playing great. Dare I say her play reminds me of Larissa... sweet smiling assassin.
No clue on FJ. Put Coca-Cola for alliterative part.

It is hard to get FJ when you have never heard of the company. Congrats to Kelly on becoming a three time champ.

I think I have to thank my brief membership long ago in the Boy Scouts, which taught me the meaning of Jamboree, for getting this FJ.

Good bullet dodging by our three-time champ.

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

For FJ the clue barely helped at all, so I just slowly went through the alphabet, hit 'J' after about 25 seconds, and WAGged Jamba Juice (with maybe 25% confidence) in the nick of time. After a crappy week of FJs, I'll take it.

Instaget FJ. My dad said it was "Coca Cola," which made me a little nervous since it is def. a "business," but then I remembered that that name comes from Cocaine and Kola nuts.

TAROT CARDS $1000: No. 9: Howard Hughes lived as one for the last years of his life
I took a neg with recluse guessing off the Hughes part. Since it doesn't hurt to ask, do tarot cards have any alternative names or only "hermit" fits both parts of the clue?
Earlier today I watched Lip-Sync Battle which is hosted by L.L. Cool J. and has color commentary by (wife of John Legend) Chrissy Teigen. I like those kind of pop culture clues on J! to mix in with the academic and word play stuff.
I've never been in one and I do not know if the Jamba Juice five blocks away from me is still there or not, but I still considered it a home court advantage solve. Also, the company made the local news for announcing about moving its corporate headquarters from Emeryville, CA to Frisco, TX due to higher costs on the Bay Area.
Reading the page 1 posts in this thread leads me to think I should poll about never even hearing of the juice place.
For those who collect such things tonight had another instance of Alex calling on a contestant whose name matched the correct response when Lincoln got the Lincoln clue.

Coryat: $35,800
44 R/2 W
DD: 2/3
FJ:
LT: James Corden, beautiful & spacious (DD), Chrissy Teigen, charitable trust, detached retina (DD)
I didn't think about the possible regional bias in tonight's FJ! since I've had many a Jamba Juice in my life. Caribbean Passion is especially delish.
Anyone else know jamba/jambo from this?
