TD 311 - "Name's the Same" - Now the EC Info.

Post by jwatcher16 »

Greetings: Please Note: I'm in S. Jersey and may be affected by Hurricane Hermine. Just in case of loss of power, I'm starting this early. I will be checking in and monitoring as much as I can. Just be aware my presence may be interrupted. If there's a problem, I feel sure we can work some accommodation out. Thanks for understanding. So here goes:

Welcome to TD #311 – “Name’s the Same.” The questions will somehow center around names that are shared; usually by people, but not always. And you never know, some fictional characters may make an appearance.
For the people, generally the real name is used; although sometimes a stage name will be called for, so please watch for that. You should be able to complete this with general knowledge and maybe just a bit of logic.
The basic rules apply:
Your goal is to achieve the lowest score for all questions; your score for each question is equal to the total number of players also submitting your answer.

Wrong answers count for the SHEEP (most common answer) + 5 points.

You must give the letter for any question that includes letters next to its choices. Using the wrong letter or submitting with no letter will be counted as incorrect.

You may DROP one question and receive zero points for that question; you may also SHEEP one question and receive the point total of the most common answer.

As always, no cheating. This includes googling or other research, asking others, or Vulcan mind melds.

This TD also includes one extra credit question which will count for -2 points off your score. There will be no penalty for incorrect answers to the extra credit question.
A tie–breaker will be used only in case of any ties in the final top three positions. First tie-breaker will be whoever had the most number of singletons. If a second tie-breaker is needed, earlier date and time of entry will decide the position.
Entries will be accepted until 11:59 p.m.(EDT) on Sept. 12. ENTRIES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BY PM TO ME. THANKS.

Good luck and enjoy!

Looks very interesting! How do you want us to enter? PM to you, or is there a Google form, or something else?

Hope Hermine doesn't give you too much trouble.

Greetings! Thanks for that heads up. I was so intent on just getting the questions up I didn't remember about that. Entries should be sent in by PM. I'll also edit the quiz post.

As for Hermine, when I caught the 11 p.m. news, it said it would go farther out to sea now than they thought, so in my neck of the woods, we shouldn't be getting much trouble now at all. For days they were saying strong winds, which had me concerned (ya know branches and power lines). And believe it or not, early Sat. morning my power went off for a short while, making me think "uh oh!" So although thinking ahead isn't usually my strong suit, I thought it better to get ahead of things, rather than have a problem and get STUCK, so after PM thing with RandyG, it seemed the best option was to post a bit early...

Anyway, glad you thought it sounds interesting. I'll look forward to getting your entry! Good luck!!!

Acknowledgements:

Thanks soooo much to BobF for editorial advice and to Vermonter for patience as I practiced with his TD Tracker.
And to RandyG for bearing with me---- I'd rather have been a bit on the alarm/cautious side, but I'd rather have done that than have had something happen and be really stuck trying to do this and having real problems.

And don't worry, I will be putting up a list of participants and hopefully acknowledging the entries.

Oh yeah, Labor Day barbeue'ers - not to worry. Lord willing, the quiz will still be here after the holiday.

And Happy Labor Day everyone!

Hi there RandyG -

That is absolutely correct! And combination is the operative statistical word. I will be looking for 2 correct last names - with corresponding letters of choices------ and any of those 15 combinations will do.

I guess I'll go back and note the # of correct ans. for each question, as I did for #11. If it will make thngs a bit clearer, no problem.

I just posted a quick clarification for #11. It really shouldn't make any difference to the question OR list of possible responses. Got a PM asking something and thought just to be safe I'd review the wording. Seems at though there is one more possible response...

Post by jwatcher16 »

Greetings all -

I'm taking a deep breath as I start the reveal. Please forgive the slight delay in getting this started. As well as getting "tracking", I've been doing doing quite a bit of due diligence to make sure any answer I feel is incorrect really is (after reading the TD Intro I thought I'd better! And in one case, I'm glad I did.

I am striving to be as accurate as possible, so if you feel you've been scored in any way inaccurately, please do not hesitate to post or PM. I do ask if you feel I've deemed something incorrect that you feel should be accepted that you please provide some sort of verification. Thanks :D

So here goes: Question 1:

No, I just meant to say "Perkins". For some reason, I always confuse the two. Probably should have avoided it.

URGENT!!!

I just ran into BIG trouble when doing Question 3 on Vermonter's Tracker. I entered the correct responses for Q 3 but when I went to the scoresheet to check incorrect responses then run the results, there was one CORR$ECT response that was seemingly counted but didn't give the person a score or anything. Wasn't flagged as Help, either.

Can Vermonter or anyone familiar enough with this PLEASE help? I certainly don't want to have to start over and enter all responses again or anything... I don't know happened, I didn't think I did anything out of the ordinary.

Please help, somebody... and thanks in advance.

Thanks for giving me the chance to name a playwrite, but I had nuthin. I had no idea there was another person who ran for POTUS while in prison.
