TD 314 -- PI (FINAL RESULTS)

Post by floridagator »

Welcome to Think Different 314. How could it be about anything but pi? Since I have told a few people I would extend them until Monday, it is only fair to extend the deadline for everyone until 5 PM CDT Monday, October 3.

THE RULES:
1. The object of this game is to provide the correct answer you think will be the least popular. The lower your total score, the better.
2. You may only use the information stored in your brain. Intentional outside research (like Googling, Binging, Yahooing, or reading the web site of Eve Astrid Andersson) is not allowed, and cheaters will be flagged by the NSA and could face prosecution under the Espionage Act.
3. The score for a correct answer is the number of players who give that answer.
4. The score for an incorrect answer is the SHEEP score— that is, the most popular correct answer for that question--plus 5 points.
5. There are two lifelines.
a. You may drop one question
b. You may sheep one question, in which case you will earn the sheep/caucus score.
6. Unless stated otherwise, Wikipedia.com is the final authority for what responses are correct. Spelling is not important as long as you're close. You’ll help your cause by spelling your answers as close to correctly as you can.
7. Ties will be broken only for the top three positions. In case of a tie, the earliest submission wins.
8. The deadline for entering this game is 11:59 pm (CDT) on Sunday, October 2 extended to 5 PM CDT on Monday, October 3. Please reply by PM; don’t post your answers in the thread.

On with the TD.

Some questions with unnumbered choices specify "no letter needed" but questions 1 and 10 don't. Am I right in thinking those are the same - no letter is needed on those either?

Yes, you need a letter if and only if the choices are lettered.

Re: TD 314 -- PI (CLOSING SOON)

Post by floridagator »

The contest is supposed to close in 3 hours and 18 minutes, but I will accept late submissions tonight because I will not be at my computer at midnight. So if your submission makes it in by morning, you will be as good as 3.141592.

At the moment, there are only 19 submissions, so that means a lot of singletons. A lot of people who entered TD 310 (television) haven't entered yet. You're missing a lot of easy questions with no negbait!

QUESTION 2.

Error in the question. No traditional Thanksgiving pie is made from a nightshade. I therefore decided to accept sweet potato pie as a correct answer. Also, the New England pie that's really cake is Boston Cream Pie, but I decided the question was ambiguous enough to accept Whoopie Pie, which is also well known in New England. I'm new to TD writing.

Question: Why are sweet potatoes and pumpkins nightshades?

I could see some kind of Halloween pun where a pumpkin is a night shade (a shade for a candle left out at night), but I get nothing for sweet potato.
