Same here. I yelled, "Who is Juliette... Baden-Powell. Crap!"
So it looks like, while I have the "Hawley-Smoot" folder to remember strange names in, you and I both have the "Gutzon Borglum" file, where names that should be instantly memorable just won't stick.

Well done! Especially with getting both letters that contain psi. That eluded our contestants. I suspect under the lights it would elude me as well. From the couch? Piece o' cake.
TenPoundHammer wrote:I saw no way to get "Little Drummer Boy" on Duets for $600. That clue seemed insanely wide open.
Yeah, I don't think there was any TOM to narrow it down. You just had to know it, and only one of the contestants (almost) did.

Hurrah for Cindy! Bien joué! What is the organization she donated her winnings to?

LT: 'Christmas time is here', Blue ridge mountains.

Was never getting 'blood bank' based on "storage organization". Need to review my Greek letters. Thought DJ was killer tonight. Was never gonna do well on Military. "Wagner hero" always leads me to Parsifal but on J! it's always Siegfried. Need to rewire my brain.

Signing the Constitution the year before 1777 was an unfortunate neg by Garrett.

Worked my way through the South American capitals and got to Santiago with time to spare. Sounded right, but had no idea how James translated into Spanish.

Red Dawn and Fury didn't ring many bells. Ding ding. What? Not my night tonight.

Sault Saint Marie is the correct response. From there I can't help. Huron is big, so perhaps the spot that Jogues named is different than where the city is located?

Ahh! I've been holding my tongue so hard because I was a local alternate for this day. You guys, Cindy is my hero. She was doubled over in pain off camera and clearly very sick (though we didn't know the details, and she was vague when I asked if she was okay). I was happily surprised when she pulled it together on camera and WON...and so much more so, after learning just how sick she'd really been. It sucks that she didn't live long enough to see herself on air. Fuck cancer.

Tim, you had a good run, but even you are probably glad you didn't win this game.

I probably would have got this FJ anyway, but recent news coverage of Castro's funeral and burial in Santiago made it closer to top of mind. I was also aware of the St James - Santiago connection through the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The St. James-Santiago connection has come up several times on the show:

#5840, aired 2010-01-22 SIGNS & SYMBOLS $1000: (Kelly of the Clue Crew reports from Santiago de Compostela in Spain.) Pilgrims can find Santiago de Compostela by these shells, the symbol of St. James; one theory is that the converging lines represent pilgrims coming from all over
#5700, aired 2009-05-22 SOMEDAY THE SAINTS $2000: (Jon of the Clue Crew reports from the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain.) The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela houses the remains of this saint--"Iago" in Spanish--the traditional evangelizer of Spain
#4843, aired 2005-10-05 THE "S" FILES $800: This masculine first name, also a world capital, is Spanish for "Saint James"
#3374, aired 1999-04-15 SAINTS $400: This country's capital was orginally Santiago de Leon de Caracas, after Santiago, or Saint James

Sault Ste. Marie is mentioned nowhere on Isaac Jogues' Wikipedia article, and googling "Isaac Jogues" + "Sault Ste. Marie" (while also adding "-church" to discount any hits for the church of the same name in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan) gives no worthwhile results. There is nothing else called Sault Ste. Marie besides the cities in Michigan and Ontario.

I am from Michigan and have been to Sault Ste Marie many times. I don't recall any falls from there either. The Soo Locks are there so that vessels don't have to go down St. Mary's river which contain lots of rapids since there is a 19 foot elevation difference between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Additionally, Sault Ste Marie is not on Lake Huron.

I watched The Chase today, and one of the contestants said that he knew that Diego was spanish for Jamed. I don't know if that's true, but it got me to San Diego, and it wasn't too big of a leap to get to Santiago.

"Sault" means "falls".

That still doesn't help any, because I have no earthly idea what falls they are referring to. There are no falls on Lake Huron, nor are there any falls simply called "Sault Ste. Marie".

"Sault Ste Marie" translates to "St. Mary's Falls", a name given by the guy named in the clue for the cataracts (as we'd call them) that flow by what is now the cities of Sault Ste Marie MI & ON.

Clear enough now?

Edit: (Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sault_Ste._Marie,_Ontario In the fourth paragraph of the History section)

If I had 50 cents for every math question I got right, I'd have $6.30 by now.

Another Michigander here. That clue baffled me. My initial thought was Tahquamenon Falls, but that name isn't French, the falls are inland, and the closest lake is Lake Superior. (Fun fact: There is a brewpub inside Tahquamenon Falls State Park.)

OK. Maybe they are farther downstream. They cannot be too far away, as the cities were named for them.

Well now you're just trolling. Can we get this moved to the TPH thread? Cindy deserves better.

I went to Catholic grammar school, and the nuns told us the story of Isaac Jogues's treatment at the hands of the Iroqouis. It was torture porn at its worst. Jogues was canonized in 1930, along with seven other Canadian Martyrs.
