Alex: Andrea Keppers is a history educator from Colorado. You are an educator for parks and open space system. I don't know what that is. What does that mean?

Andrea: Well, the county where I work is right in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. And they have a system of open space parks with a lot of historic sites, ruins, ranch houses. And I get to go out in the parks and tell people about those historical sites.

Alex: Well, good for you. It's like being a docent, in other words.

Andrea: It is. It's paid, however.

Alex: How nice.

Andrea: Yes.

Alex: Good for you.




Alex: John Avila, an attorney from Arlington, Virginia. This man is not only bright, he is athletic. He had a varsity letter that he earned in high school in...

John: Girls' basketball.

John: One of my favorite teachers was the head coach, and I started doing P.A. announcing, and I was also the statistician for the boys' and the girls' team. And at the end of the year I got invited to the banquet for varsity athletes and was awarded a varsity letter in girls' basketball. For excellence in P.A. announcing and actually broadcasting on public access TV.

I wasn't a fan of the Odd Combined Responses category. Normally, I like the quirky final categories (Before and After is near and dear to my heart), but this category seemed unnecessarily abstruse. I was pleasantly surprised to see the players move speedily through both boards, though; this felt like the best-paced game in the past couple of weeks.

LT on Pabst Blue Ribbon (along with a couple others I don't remember)--helps to be not that far out of college.

No clue on FJ. I need to brush up on my Shakespeare.

Andrea not taking a guess on that final clue was painful. Wouldn't matter if she guessed wrong, but guessing right would've given her a shot to win. Even more painful since she was the only one to get Final! right.

As for me, guessed HMS Pinafore. Never considered Shakespeare at all.

47R; surprised myself on the wordplay puzzles as I usually don't catch them fast enough. LT: "d"-penny (did you ever go to the hardware store with Dad and notice how the nails are sorted by weights, printed as 4d, 6d, 8d, etc etc? That's 'pennyweight'! Still in use in my hometown Mom&Pop..; In German V = W in sound...' 1957; 3 Faces of Eve; P = Phosphous (luminescent); FJ.

He didn't offer a tie, you may want to double check your math.

There are no longer co-champions, had they tied there would have been a tiebreaker clue, so the unknown player in the green room isn't really a factor.

Poor Andrea was just $1100 short of preventing a runaway and having a chance at winning with a sole FJ get. With the trend of awful wagers from 2nd and 3rd lately, we might not ever find out if she would have known to wager enough to catch John. The zero wager casts doubt IMHO.

I tried for several seconds to figure out what play might be about a dead captain, but I eventually came to peace with the fact that "Moro" must mean "Moorish."

Two costly slips of the tongue for me with Saarinen for Sibelius and Afternoon Special instead of Afterschool Special.

I often wonder about brands that were once ubiquitous but then disappeared. Lowenbrau is one of those.

Disappointed that the lady in second place didn't buzz in for the final clue. The answer was a single letter, so there was a 1 in 26 chance (or even lower with any basic knowledge of elements) of getting within 50% of the leader.

That was cool for James Arey to get that clue appearance doing his ¡Three Amigos! move. He was around on one of the older official message board incarnations and I've seen him post on FB, so I'm sure he either saw it or heard about it.
