Alex: There is perhaps more pressure on this man, Doug Baker, as a contestant on Jeopardy! today, because he is married to a seven-time Jeopardy! champion. And her name?

Doug: Stephanie Jass.

Alex: Now you met and kind of impressed her when you almost beat her in a game that requires a certain amount of knowledge.

Doug: Yes, we played Trivial Pursuit on our first date, and I was winning. I was so winning, and then she said something along the lines of, "Let's hurry up so we can make out."

[Laughter]

Doug: Let's just say I lost every point thereafter rapidly and she ended up winning.

Alex: That was the smartest thing you did that day, believe me.

Doug: Yeah, absolutely.




Alex: Ben Smolen from Los Angeles. He's a writer, and when you were 16, you were in an independent film where you performed.

Ben: I was in The Squid and the Whale, and I was--in that movie, there's a talent show scene, where Jesse Eisenberg plays the guitar.

Alex: Right.

Ben: Obviously, they couldn't cut to that directly, so I was the young boy covered in puppets.

Alex: Ah.

Ben: Before that scene began.

Alex: Sounds like fun. All right.




Alex: Now to our champion, Lisa Schlitt, a microbiologist from Pennsylvania, who went on a New York subway with a frog.

Lisa: Yeah. So I lived downstate around New York City, and my college was in upstate New York. And I actually happened to win a frog at the end of high school. Little guy just kept on living, despite coming in a ketchup cup. So I get to take him back and forth, and I'd have him in a little container while I'd catch the A train uptown, go to Port Authority, and take a long bus ride back, and the little guy made it for 8 years.

Alex: Good. You're in command of the board right now, young lady.

And I can't imagine that they would have accepted Hepburn per Kirk's information from the other day about what contestants are told about giving complete Final Jeopardy responses. That said, I had no idea that Audrey Hepburn had three nominations in the 60s, plus another in 1955. So, this was an instaget but it's just as well that I was oblivious to Audrey's nominations. (I knew she won for Roman Holiday but also knew it was in the early 50s).

Looks like it's 3/7 so far, so I'll take the under 50% for the weekly poll even though Katharine Hepburn seems guessable for someone to pull out a name to have a response.

Lisa is 3/3 on FJ! clues and her opponents are 1/6, so well done by her being correct on three that were no cinch for other J! players.

Luckily for me, I picked the right one (I had a dim memory that 1968 might have been one of the years that K. Hepburn was not just nominated, but also won).

Katharine was nominated 12 times; she won Best Actresd in back-to-back years in 1968 and 1969. If you know that bit of movie trivia, it's an educated guess.

This was a tough get agonized over it. Quickly excluded Hayworth too early, Monroe too dead, Grace Kelly gone to Monaco. Thinking about Taylor and the two (unrelated) Hepburns, and "The Lion In Winter" pops into me cranium. So, a WAG; I knew she had been ill around the filming of it so it seemed to fit. I haven't memorized the nominees of every Academy Awards, LOL!

Just the same reason so many people misspell Barbra Streisand's first name: it's an atypical spelling. Post corrected.

Interesting factoid: KH (Lion In Winter) and BS (Funny Girl) tied for best actress for 1968. I've never heard of that happening before or since.
