Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails
I took the online test in October 2014, and received the audition invitation email in late January, 2015. Did the in-person audition in Denver in March, 2015.
At the audition, we were told that our audition would be valid until August, 2016, and if we hadn't heard anything by then we could re-take the online test again that fall.
August 2016 came and went, so I re-took the online test in October 2016.
Got a call from Lauri on November 7, 2016 (the day before the election), inviting me to be a contestant. We taped on December 7 for an episode to air on Tuesday, March 21, 2017. I'm still not sure of the timing; we were originally told that our auditions would "expire" in August 2016, but the call came so quickly after my second online test that I'm not sure it factored into it.
The taping day was such a blur that I'm looking forward to the air date so I can see what happened! I remember the FJ category and answer, and the game results, but I have very little memory of the actual game remaining.
When the call came, my caller ID simply said "out of state call." Since it was the day before the election, I figured it was probably another political call, so I rejected it. I noticed a voice mail about two hours later saying, "Hi, this is Lauri from Jeopardy! Please give me a call so we arrange for you to be a contestant." I was thrilled -- but a little suspicious until I did a search on the number and it came back registered to Sony Pictures, Culver City CA. Very glad I listened to the voice mail and called back!

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails
How cool! I was in the audience that day for the morning session. It's crazy that you have to wait more than 3 months for your episode(s) to air. Congrats on making it on the show. I have yet to be invited to an audition.James wrote:Got a call from Lauri on November 7, 2016 (the day before the election), inviting me to be a contestant. Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails
Thanks for the note -- I'll bet your memory of the morning is probably more complete than mine; I felt a little dazed after the taping. Hope you keep trying. My understanding is that there's a big random factor involved in the selection of auditioners and contestants from the pool of eligibles. I gather they have more qualified people than they have slots, so the selection for either an audition or an appearance may be almost like drawing names out of a hat.morbeedo wrote:How cool! The 3 1/2 month delay has been more frustrating for family and friends than it has been for me, but it will be a relief when I can finally talk about it. I think the normal span between taping and airing is more in the range of 7-8 weeks, but they accelerate the taping schedule in November and December to produce a little bit of a backlog so the staff and crew can have time off over the holidays. It's a pretty frantic pace both during taping and behind the scenes between tapings, so they certainly deserve it.

Took a few years, but he made it. Congrats on being added to the wife/husband on J! list.

Thanks for noticing, Mark. Any idea how many J! Couples there are? Enough to field a tourney, perhaps???

This is not even close to a complete list, but does have a lot of notables:Dr. J wrote:Thanks for noticing, Mark. Any idea how many J! Couples there are? Enough to field a tourney, perhaps???

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails
Congrats! I got The Call on election day itself and then taped on December 6th, airing one week earlier than you. Interesting that you got called first despite taping the day after. Not a huge discrepancy of course.Kevin Shrum wrote:Got a call from Lauri on November 7, 2016 (the day before the election), inviting me to be a contestant. My phone showed that the call was from Culver City so I knew right away and practically shoved my daughter aside to pick it up. I totally understand the feeling of wanting to see the show because the day itself flew by. I barely remember anything from the game, everything just flew by so quickly.

Out of curiousity, does anybody here know how to record a TV show into a format that can be saved onto a backup? I really want to keep my episode around and relying on a single DVR to remain functional forever seems unrealistic.

I can get you HD digital copies of your episodes. Just let me know in advance how many you're in.mcsheffrey wrote:Out of curiousity, does anybody here know how to record a TV show into a format that can be saved onto a backup? Seriously, I'll be happy to upload your game(s) for you. As I tell the others, the first 10 games are free. So far, everyone has chosen to lose before their 11th game rather than find out how much I charge. Pikers.

I sincerely wish that I could be the first person to break that streak. Sadly, I am not the second coming of Ken Jennings. But seriously, thank you so much for that very generous offer!opusthepenguin wrote:So far, everyone has chosen to lose before their 11th game rather than find out how much I charge. Pikers.

Ooh! Congrats! I'll have to check my home email to see if I got one (assuming that TPTB place me in the Chicago market)PowerofHoodoo wrote:Just got an invitation to audition in Chicago on March 16.

Do you not get to choose the audition city you prefer anymore? I remember having to choose from among 8 cities for where I would like to audition.Woof wrote:(assuming that TPTB place me in the Chicago market)

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails
With the latest round of online tests (in October) there was no ability to specify an audition city. Speculation here at the time was that they'd select people from the pool of passing scores based on geographical considerations.mcsheffrey wrote:Do you not get to choose the audition city you prefer anymore? Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails
In the past, you were given a list of potential audition sites to pick from. There was a disclaimer that some cities might not end up on the final list.mcsheffrey wrote:Do you not get to choose the audition city you prefer anymore? Edited to add: Some boardies have speculated whether you might improve your chances by picking a city in an area likely to have fewer people pass the test. I don't know if there was follow through on that or if anyone doing so felt it paid off.

Unless they do a couple round of Chicago emails, I missed another audition invite.
