Re: Monday, March 20, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Even though I know little Spanish it was still an automatic to go for everything at home in NFL EN ESPAÑOL, especially in a second box. My luck ran out after getting the local team for $1200 as I did not know the birds to complete the run.
Rebecca as returning champ and facing those challengers did what she should have done and had the runaway. I can only imagine what some of the elite players from previous TOCs would have done in this game from the 1 slot.
Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 Hrs. are great while today's clue being a stumper was just the opposite. I'll leave it to the Canadians, Michiganders and South Americans to have their say about the geography stumpers from their parts of the world.
I like it when the FJ! clue narrows the search range (not that it helped Rebecca with her guess) to keep me from getting too far off track. My guess was correct as all the other choices I could brainstorm seemed like they had to be wrong. Interesting that the players had three different incorrect choices.

I misread the clue and thought it meant the pope served fairly recently and went with Benedict. I might have gotten it right since I am fairly good at popes, but who knows.
I didn't do well in the Spanish NFL teams.

After another FJ shutout last week, I was surprised to correctly guess today's FJ, especially when none of the players were able to. Good for me.

For some reason, I know the Latin version of John Paul II, which eliminated a couple of possible choices and led me to the right answer.

Re: Monday, March 20, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Was thinking Leo all the way and then remembered there was a Pius somewhat recently. Tune in next century for the next time I solve a triple stumper religion FJ!
Poor Christiane was just too buzzer-happy for her own good, but missing the double-alley-oop-slam-dunk on Cape Town just bummed me out.
So now we can expect an NHL teams in French category sometime next year maybe? IIRC, we had MLB teams in French, and NBA and now NFL teams in Spanish.

Poor Eli - Army, Navy and Marines were all founded in 1775. At least he didn't say, "Air Force"!
I found the wording on FJ to be awkward and ultimately landed on "Francis." Pius never occurred to me so the wording didn't have any impact. But it still seems clunky.

Not a good game to watch. Can't believe the contestants on geography B category.
Island inland of South Africa with those guesses?
Didn't Nobel winners receive moolah in 60s?
One category and DD left, let's go for 400. Ok.
These teams in other languages is too tough for me.

Good enough to lose on Jeopardy!

Re: Monday, March 20, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
Oh come on, with a few more guesses someone would've landed on Cape Town!
Hmm, I'm trailing the champ by a HUGE margin in DD, so I'll just bet $2000 then buzz in randomly to wipe out that gain and lock myself out of contention. Good get on Al Capone though...
I was in the audience for this show and totally panicked when I saw FJ. Went with Francis. Doh!
I love sports teams in (foreign language) because I have a fighting chance to run the category in my weakest subject. Alas, cuervos was too tough today; still, Da Bears was a really bad guess.
TS: Accent, Civic, Italy, Baffin, Holland, Bogota, Eagles, MOMA
There's a Highland festival in Kansas??

I don't have today's show because I didn't realize the DVR was full. Help?

Re: Monday, March 20, 2017 Game Recap & Discussion [SPOILERS]
I read the 'from' in the FJ clue to mean 'since', and I had absolutely no chance since I started with the 1950s. It could have been worded a little more clearly.
Curse those contestants for not finishing the geography category!

I got Pius pretty quickly, but wasn't sure of the number. Was it needed? Was Pius alone acceptable?

The Tricky Clues category was a nice change of pace. Even tripped up Eli on a high hanging curve. I can see where he must have been thinking about the Marines' dress blues.
Once again, Alex telegraphed the TS at the end of the music with his "this was a tough one" line.
LT: Accent, Phantom, Nick Nolte, Missouri River and the missed Holland DD.

Is it just me or did Alex seem a wee bit snarky today? Some of his reactions to incorrect responses seemed overly harsh.

According to Alex, the Air Force was founded that year as well.Elijah Baley wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2017 7:43 pm Poor Eli - Army, Navy and Marines were all founded in 1775. At least he didn't say, "Air Force"!

Instaget. The pope has been named Pius for most of the time the U.S. has been a country.
I'd rather cuddle then have sex. If you're into grammar, you'll understand.

Had one of my highest Coryats ever, set a new personal best for LTs on the first board, and almost matched my highest number of LTs ever. Not sure how much this even had to do with me, though. Any game where I'm getting a ton of geography Triple Stumpers and even two on cars means something is off.
Another nice victory for Rebecca, who I was rooting for, but she looked far more beatable/vulnerable the second time around.
Christiane should have bet everything on her DD. A second row clue in a pure speed category? You have to go for it, even if you don't much Spanish or football. It's probably going to be easy, which it was.
Also, a slight mistake on the Horatio Alger clue. He didn't write "rags to riches" stories so much as "rags to middle-class" stories.
LT: Phantom, Civic, Bogota, Nick Nolte, Baffin Island, Missouri River, Eagles, Cape Town
FJ: I got it! Took me about 10-15 seconds, and I wasn't entirely certain, but I got it all the same.

Pius is an English word?
