Courtesy of Pannoni, we have the October 25, 1985 game. Al Lusher vs. Faye Ringel vs. Mark Leinwand. As he puts it, it's the
Back to the Future episode.

Now this, my friends, is an interesting game. It's game 2 for ToCer Mark Leinwand, but he might be the 3rd most interesting player in the game. At podium 3 we have Al (Alan) Lusher, the all-time winner on the '70s Alex Trebek game show Double Dare. (No mention is made of that fact) But it's player 2 I'm most interested in. I had to Google to try to figure out her name, and it turns out that Coast Guard Academy professor
Faye Ringel was a semi-finalist in the
1974 Art Fleming Jeopardy Tournament of Champions! They didn't mention that either, but I wish they had. I can confirm it's the same person thank to an Instagram pic I can't link to at work. (Thanks, Matthew Heim, whoever you are!)
So, quick rundown.
Daily Double hunting strategy would be a lot different today if they still had an Audio Daily Double in every game. The players stayed away from DANCE SONGS for way too long.
Gonna give the Clues of the Game award to HATS for $400 and $500:
$400: Unlike the haberdasher, this person makes women's hats
$500: Lacy headgear worn by the ladies of Spain
$400: What is a milliner?
$500: What is the mantilla?
Those are both Things Worth Knowing.
2 consecutive games I've entered with THE '50s as a category. I'm pretty sure they used the same category title slide both times. It's got a weird-looking "s" on it.
LABOR UNIONS for $200 (DJ!) is no longer accurate. The number is now closer to 11%.
I was sure that SOUTH CAROLINA for $1000 was going to be a stumper, but congrats to Faye for getting it.
For over 25 years he published a unique newspaper, "The Carolina Israelite" in Charlotte
Who is Harry Golden?
I'm guessing fewer than 5 contestants this whole season could get that one right today. I'd never heard of him, but he sounds interesting.
In the previous game I entered, Paula Tupper failed to spell out the acronym ASCAP for a Daily Double, but this time around Mark Leinwand managed to get AFTRA for a DD. I always mix those 2 up.
In
Inside Jeopardy, Harry Eisenberg notes that the quiz show scandals were a
verboten topic under Merv Griffin's watch, but THE '50s for $400 (DJ!) was apparently written before that rule went into effect.
And poor Al muffed it in FJ, forgetting to phrase his (correct) response as a question. Fortunately it did not effect the outcome of the game on a triple get with big wagers. In the J! round, he also responded without ringing in, so Faye got the points.
This was a well-played game with some good, tough clues. Worth tracking down on Daily Motion if you have 20 minutes to kill. Have a good night all.
