What do you think???
How do you know you passed? If you have not been invited to an audition, you did not pass (regardless of what your score was) and can/should take the test again. If you have auditioned in the last 18 months, you should not. That's pretty much it.
Got 40 right in October. Unless they jacked up the passing score way beyond what they have customarily done, that's a pass.

I guess I have a different definition than yours. If I reach the qualifying score but don't get invited to an audition, then I passed the test and failed the lottery.

If I have not been invited to an audition, and it's not because of not passing the test, it's either because they have sent out invitations for auditions to whatever city I would have gone to, and I wasn't among them; or they haven't yet sent out invitations to auditions in "my city."

Unlike years past I don't know what "my city" would be since they didn't ask us to choose an audition city. But I haven't seen word on this thread regarding auditions in any city in the region: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville, etc. So I'm holding out hope I'm still in the lottery to be chosen to go to one of those or to some other nearby city.

My question is: if that is the case, is it permitted to take the test again. From what I read in the several answers to my query, I think it may be permitted, so I'll go ahead and do it.

Thanks for all your answers.

Hi all, not sure where to ask this and didn't want to make a new thread.

If I auditioned in April 2016, can I take the online test at the end of the month or should I wait til my 18 months are over (around October/November this year)? I vaguely recall someone saying I can take the test again closer to the end of my 18 months, but I don't remember if that's something I read somewhere or if that was mentioned during my audition.

If I can take the test, is there a way to tell them I auditioned last yer?

That 18 months is a hard-and-fast rule. If it has been less than 18 months since your audition, you will take yourself out of the running by taking the test again. If it has been more than 18 months, you're good to go.

In order to take the test "for fun", they say to select the "been on Jeopardy" option at the page.

Go back a few pages in this thread and you'll see that auditions were held in Chicago in March. A boardie has also posted that invitations were sent out for Minneapolis in May. When I auditioned in Chicago, the coordinators said their next stop was DC.

I apparently don't know how to use the quote feature correctly. Starting with "Go back a few pages..." is from PowerofHoodoo.

I'm pretty sure there will be auditions in Nashville in about 2 weeks, and invitation e-mails have already been sent. So there's one fewer city to be chosen for...sorry, John Boy.

The answer to your question is yes, take it again. The only time you should not take the test is if you actually auditioned in person within the last 18 months. That is the only way to get into the "pool". Best of luck.

Anyone know where other auditions are likely to be held, or are they just keeping that secret until invites go out?

Me, I'm still waiting to be invited to one in Cleveland...assuming that hasn't already happened.

Definitely register to take the online test "for real" unless you've had an audition within the last 18 months. Several months after the April 2015 Jeopardy! test, I hadn't received an audition invitation, so I registered for the January 2016 test. The week before that Jan. 2016 test, I received an audition invite based on the 2015 test, so audition invites may arrive late. I was unable to change my status to taking the 2016 test "for fun," so I just ended up viewing all three 2016 tests off of YouTube.

I did the online test in Oct 2014 and received an invitation to a March 2015 audition. Heard nothing for the next 18 months, re-took the online quiz in October 2016. Got "the call" less than two weeks later, so I'm not sure of the selection process timing -- I don't know if the second online test had even been processed yet, but the the call came 20 months after the audition.

So -- when in doubt, do it.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Re: Timing of Audition Invite Emails

I’ve been reflecting on the audition process over the last month. I recently got back in the pool for the 4th time after auditioning on Minneapolis on the Sunday afternoon. Previously: Boston 2007 and 2009, and Niagara Falls 2013; 4 other times, I got scores between 39-44 but no audition email. Most interesting to me was that in the 4 years between auditions 3 and 4, the number of people I knew had been on the show jumped from 2 to 7.

First -- any other boardies there? It didn’t come up by name in my group.

When Corina asked if people in my group had tried out in person before, nearly everyone put up their hands (I spotted about 3 exceptions). I wondered if a) my group was specifically loaded with previous auditioners, b) by now, most people who get in person tryouts continue to get them, or c) whether it was just a coincidence.

That experience does explain how everyone was pretty quick and sharp with their personal introductions and stories without a lot of extra prompting. By the time I got up there (group 6 of 7) two different people had already used one of my money stories -- “take my significant other to Australia” (though my extra garnish, “to visit the woman who introduced us”, was not shared) so I had to go with a backup.

I read through the entirety of this thread to see how many times people have tried out in person before making it on the show. 5 times happened at least once, 3 happened a few times. The most interesting part is seeing posters from 3 years back who talk about their worries about ever making it on the show… whose avatars now include Alex in a two-shot.

Anyway, I’ve got the exact right amount of hope, and studying/reading is always good for life (and Learned League, and my first TCONA coming up soon!) but for others out there who are wondering about multiple auditions being the trick, or giving up hope: if they take the expected number of 3 from my session, odds are very high they’re all going to be repeaters. It was also a great end to a great day by walking to a nearby bar and having dinner with my SO and her family.

P.S. Also funny that I was the only person to not put up my hand because I don’t “watch Jeopardy every day at home” (because I watch every afternoon at 4:30 at the work gym.)

I am currently swimming (until the end of the year) for the 6th time. I would dearly love to become one of those people who can change their avatar to a two-shot with Alex, but I'm not holding my breath.

Of my 6 in-person interviews, 2 were in the postcard era. In the on-line era, every single time I think I got a 35 or better on the test, I have been asked to an in-person interview. That might be coincidence, or there may be something to the theory that the lottery is weighted towards people who have had in-person interviews before?
Teems with quiet fun.

We're hoping you can confirm that because of an invitation you received, and not from a friend of a friend of a friend. Please keep us posted after the July audition.

I'm assuming so. I took the October 2016 test and was passed over for the April auditions. Then I took last week's test and was contacted today for an audition the second weekend in July. I still don't believe it, because I've been taking those darn tests from the beginning and never heard anything. So I almost fell off my chair at work today, especially coming so soon after the online test

It could also be that the lottery is weighted toward women. My sense is that far more men take the test than women. Given that the ratio among contestants is roughly 50/50, they would need to favor women at the audition selection level, the contestant selection level, or both. (This also assumes, of course, that the pass rates for men and women are roughly the same. I have no reason to believe they are not.)
Sprinkles are for winners.
