Thanks. The September game is done, but the link to the game responses for the October game at jeoparchive.com is a no-go. I have a link to archive.org's copy of Ronnie's pages at home. We'll see if I can get them finished there. Else I'll have to figure out where I put my copy of those files. Didn't I upload them somewhere, and link to them in this thread? Ah well.

ETA: Right here.

I think you forgot to add the "alternate archive" note.

I tested the link, and it worked, but the Oct. 30 answers weren't there either. Fortunately Archive.org had 'em, so finally, and for reals this time, I believe Ronnie's Archive is fully transferred over.

Awww. :(. I hope it can find work elsewhere quickly, the job market for consonants hasn't been that great the last few years.

Early season game?

Post by OneTimeUser:32 »

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this game:

* A discussion on the video: https://www.reddit.com/r/Prematureceleb ... ex_trebek/

* Actual video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOp03rRM6Pw

The video starts in the middle of the second contestant's response during FJ.

I've heard it said that this episode aired on New Year's Day 1986.

I kept the FJ! round to the bare minimum, but another archivist is welcome to add Alex's explanation for the correct response, an interpretation of Glenn's arcing line drawn, Alex's reaction to Ann's response, and the congratulatory gestures that concluded the game that can be seen here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzJUVd ... sp=sharing

At DD2 Alex mentioned that Ann asked the previous day what the one-day record was and as usual Alex quoted a lower than true figure. After DD3 it looked like the game was over, http://www.j-archive.com/showscores.php?game_id=5688

but Glenn did not get the memo as he played the whole game with a goofy grin, did not seem to be affected by the scoreboard and had a good time throughout.

Ann's DD3 wager of just 800 was costly when she had a chance to make the FJ! round not matter.

Rand owen played his third game against Sue Kuelzer & sergeant major Logan McMinn: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5692

Rand did not wear his glasses for introduction, so I'm including this one to show the difference from his player page one.
Sue (now deceased) talked about the court case during her chat with Alex:

For the kings and numbers discussion this game had Leopold accepted with Alex adding the III.

For runs scored in a season Babe Ruth is still the man. For managers with over 1800 wins, Sparky has been surpassed multiple times (La Russa, Cox, Torre) and for active Dusty and Bochy are still around.

My copy of the game did not have the introductions, so I filled in what I knew including that Paul was brought back after a previous appearance. If at first you don't succeed, try again, did not work out.

For something that does occur not every day on J!, Alec played 3 DDs with all of them having bets of all in.

And even if he had missed the third DD, he still leads going into FJ.

From Pannoni, April 10, 2002, Lynda Del Genis vs. Lori Wright vs. Umiko Post.

Baltimorean Lynda was pretty happy to get GEOGRAPHIC "LAND"S for $200.

DJ features a partial alphabetical run of categories. Pairs up well will the full alphabet they did a couple of years earlier.

The triply-stumping correct response in B.C. for $2000 would show up again for a clue just a month later, May 13, in NEAR EAST ANCIENT HISTORY for $2000. Seeing as that was the Million Dollar Masters Tournament, though, it was not a triple stumper then. It hasn't been seen in as a correct response since, however. I guess the Pavlov prompt would be "Egyptian + Temple + Site"? The location name in a clue suggests a response of Ramses, so maybe (+ Ramses)?
B.C. for $2000: Carved out near Aswan around 1250 B.C., the temples at this Egyptian site were moved in the 1960s A.D.

NEAR EAST ANCIENT HISTORY for $2000: We know Carians were in Egypt from graffiti they carved into a big Ramses statue at this temple site
Spoiler
What is Abu Simbel?
Nobody likes you, GENERAL HOSPITAL category.

Clue of the game will be FJ, in the category MOVIE DIRECTORS, one I missed when originally aired, but have not forgotten since:
Appropriately, the last name of this current director mean "characterized by abject fear"
Spoiler
Who is Wes Craven?
Have a good night, all.

Hi all,

I was wondering about this FJ in an old 1986 game:

http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5397

FAMOUS NAMES: In 1985, this person became the 1st professional athlete ever to appear on the front of a Wheaties box

The correct response is Pete Rose. What I don't understand is that there were many athletes in prior years on Wheaties boxes, all the way back to the 1930s. What made Pete Rose so special in this case? Am I not understanding the question correctly? If anyone can help that'd be great, thanks!

Interestingly, that FJ isn't included as one of the collected finals. Maybe they realized they really gaffed that clue up.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

According to a couple of sites I visited, athletes' images were on the sides or back of the box until 1958, when they occasionally began appearing on the front of the box. There were several pro athletes listed between 1958 and 1985, but I can only surmise that they weren't on the front of the box.

Evidently, the key words are "professional" and "front." Pro athletes prior to 1985 were on the sides or back; front of the box athletes prior to 1985 were amateur athletes like collegians or Olympians.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.
