Cigus Vanni played his retirement game against Diane Davis & Andy Zax: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5736

After archiving this game I can see why Andy's J! credit does not appear in these places:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Zax

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1078356/

This a good article about Cigus from 2012: http://www.mainlinemedianews.com/mainli ... af0d5.html

This game is another for a 5x champ leaving open the possibility of a tie since it was his last regular game anyway.

Not quite, there is a question mark there.

Also a hyphen, but I think we can omit that.

I accepted the correction suggestions since they came from a reliable source. :)

Someone above my pay grade can decide what to add to Paul's bio line: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTKMOhfmWhE

In the game Alex mentioned that Paul was a member of Mensa and that he was the most successful Mensa member J! player.

This game was a 4th podium special with a bunch of TS clues.

MERMAIDS $800 using Weeki Wachee was begging for a neg and Jake obliged. The movie cited in $1000 was filmed at Weeki Wachee and the Twinkie connection sent me to find this on YouTube for something I had not seen in many years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S0KPj59Vy0

WOMEN IN HISTORY must have been fun back in the day for parents watching with Johnny & Janie as $800 used "incest" and $1000 used "nymphonmaniac."

Hey Mark, I wonder if Alex mentioned the Teen Tournament during this episode? BTW, the audio file for the 2nd Daily Double of the DJ! round isn't working. I wonder if Trevor(animfan) gets this episode added to his collection or have some archivist get the audio file working. According to Rmfromfla from the old Sony Message Board, this episode aired on February 2, 1987 and Jim Ryan's episodes aired on April 6-10, 1987. April 13, 1987 was the first episode where the viewers get to see the blue backwall change to red right before the 2nd set of commercials come up, prior to that, the blue backwall changed to red during the 2nd set of commercials. We were researching with Game #539 and Alex didn't mention J.C. Turner as the first champion of 1987(that distinction went to Keith Bell according to Alex), so there were stations that Fern Cogar's first appearance airing on September 3, 1986, so maybe, watching many of these from GSN could really answer many of these questions. I'm surprised that Jim Ryan didn't make the cut to the 1987 TOC field, he nearly eliminated Roger Storm from that field.

I dated the game based off Joel Nathanson already in the Archive since I have a game (not archived yet) with him losing to Mary Hammond.

Right, the song clip does not work and the link I created is only a placeholder. It's a famous song everyone knows, so the lyrics I included along with Alex naming the artist and song are almost as good as the actual clip. There was definitely some red background as the outfits the ladies wore made them blend in.

No, there was not a mention of the TT. Usually that is a Monday the week before and Friday preceding the 1st game?

I kept the FJ! round responses in lowercase. Let me know if it should be uppercase.

I received a tip on FB to put "rinde jeopardy" into the search box on YT and there is a game not in the Archive. Another archivist is welcome to it as I have already have a different game ready to input later this morning.

That was fast - it's been archived now. Thanks to the archivist who transcribed it so quickly.

April 17, 2002 Becky Powell vs. Rich Clarey vs. Ben Bass

So, this was a fun game to watch. The first clue featured audio of a rooster crowing; I almost thought I was watching Information Please for a second there.

New to the J-Archive as a response, this fellow, who previously appeared in a clue with "Ruby Ridge" as the response":
TV MOVIES for $1000: In the TV movie "Ruby Ridge", Randy Quaid played this man also named Randy
Spoiler
Who is Randy Weaver?
I'm guessing Ben played quizbowl at some point in his life, as he was careful to give only last names as responses. (He started to say "F.W. Woolworth", but corrected himself to give only the last name, for instance.) As a Chicagoan, he couldn't help himself though, and gave the detailed "Who is Frank Chance of the Cubs?" when spotted Tinker and Evers.

Facts worth knowing from this ep include "Mexico's president from 1994 to 2000" and "long-distance runner named Frank", who was also the last American to win the gold medal in the men's Olympic marathon (in 1972).
Spoiler
Ernesto Zedillo and Frank Shorter, respectively.
Clue of the game will be the Daily Double at -OLOGIES for $2000, which Ben blanked on, but I got.
These 2 similar words are for the study of insects & the study of words
Spoiler
What are entomology & etymology?
FJ was a 50/50/90 for me, as I went north instead of south. Seems obvious in retrospect. According to my notebook, I got this correct back when it originally aired, but there were plenty of clues I missed then that I knew now (Raoul Wallenberg, Frank McCourt, the movie based on "The 7 Pillars of Wisdom", "show trial" when given "there no trial like...", etc. You live, you learn, you forget, you know.

Have a nice weekend.

He was on LearnedLeague for a few years, starting in LL51 (as I did) and leaving at the end of LL66 when he finished in the relegation zone in A Coastal. I thought he'd had a relatively lucrative solo ride in the Cash Cab, but in light of finding no evidence supporting my inkling, I assume I was just letting the similarity of his name to Ben Bailey's lead me in that direction.

Mark Lowenthal played Elle Hood & Jack Dumpert: http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=5748

That makes 80% of Mark's regular run in and I don't think I have his debut, unfortunately.

The game was no fun to archive with awful video quality on the tape.
While archiving the game I had '80s music playing and by about 15 minutes I missed the coincidental coordinating of the Audio DD music playing at the same time it was on my music channel.

Is 23 clues in segment 2 a record? I can't imagine it happening any other time because even games with the Ken Jennings early mercy stopping were not that early, were they? It was weird to have segment 1 end so soon since the play was fine. I can only pin it to Alex's intro talking about the just concluded tournament and bringing viewers up to speed where Mark stood for returning to play.

For the FJ! clue I knew some guys who re-charted again with the same version of their song.

The show got me twice for a being just a little young as I had zero recognition of the Tareyton ad or the 1970 ABC Rebel TV show.

I'm guessing "I'd rather fight than quit."

Checks...

"...than switch." I was close.

For the FJ! clue I knew the distance was a problem so I went for a color specification and even that way picked the much shorter of the two.

The actual wording is "Us Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch", which is how I knew it, because it's been cited as an example of improper grammar in commercials.
