I could have gotten monomers, but somehow the "change the first four letters in 'polymers'" wording made it impossible for my mind to get a foothold in deriving the response.

"Dismal science" and Cole Porter were responses I half-heartedly mumbled while their clues were still in play, but I think I would have rung in with them.

Said dreadful instead of dismal. I knew what I meant.
1666 was easy. Wasn't sure that was when the Great Fire was, but London seemed a reasonable guess.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

I had exactly the same pattern of rights and wrongs.

I don't recall encountering the term "monomer" before, but it makes sense after the fact.

I was unsure between "dark science" and "dismal science".

I got Cole Porter from "De-lovely" more than from Kevin Kline.

Never heard of monomers
Had a brain freeze on Cole Porter. Saw the movie and would have probably gotten it with more time.

I'm neither giving myself credit for, nor dinging myself for, the marine creature--I got spoiled for it. I like to think I'd have gotten it, though. 4/5 this week not counting that one.

For the first time, I have two 5/5 weeks in a row. Possibly the first 10 get streak as well, although I think I may have had one a couple of years ago.

There was a SHC category named "The Dismal Science" a couple of summers ago. That's how I knew that clue.

Another 5/5 week to end the season would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.

I only got 2/5

I managed to get jellyfish and Little Rock. I *almost* said London but for the wrong reasons and then i reneged: "bakers" got me thinking of the Great Molasses Flood, which I initially thought was London, but then I realized that it was in the USA and I couldn't come up with the Fire in enough time. (Which I had always thought was in the 1800s? Shows what I know.)

I got dismal science thanks to XKCD.

First FJ 5/5 in about two months, first 8/8 on the poll since I joined the board. Too bad it won't last. Though I may do OK in some of the upcoming rerun games.......
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

The Molasses flood came to my mind, too. I couldn't think of any fire. London was just a wild guess for me. Only later did I look up and find out that the Molasses flood was in the USA, and the early 1900s.

Board historians: with 87 votes in, 4 of this week's FJ's are polling at 86% or higher, and 44% of responding boardies got all 5 FJ's correct. Has either of those things ever happened in a week consisting of non-tournament and non-Kids Week games?
