I STILL have the Grateful Dead's Casey Jones stuck in my head. I caught myself singing it at work today.

I got as far as Casey Jones but didn't think "Crimefighter" or "NInja Turtle Sidekick" was appropriate.

Ended my personal record streak of 24 FJs in a row (since missing Crown Royal) on Tuesday.

Belize not a slam dunk, but I was able to relate Mopan to Belmopan, which I was sure was a relatively new capital and figured it was either in Belize or somewhere like Suriname or Guyana, and guessed right.

I don’t “study” any trivia or lists of data, but have taken quizzes here and there. I view J! as a test of my knowledge accumulated over a lifetime.

No guess Tuesday, radio announcer (thinking of Kasem), Panama
I was thinking of significantly larger birds than the kiwi; maybe if they'd specified NZ I might have thought of them but otherwise I wasn't going to get it.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Eggheads and Panama...I've heard of Belmopan, just not enough... The only place I've worked to memorize capitals was in school. It's served me pretty well...
I doubted Marion was SC, thinking he might be GA, but I came down right. Not sure how I knew pomegranate. I said emu with some confidence, so maybe Down Under confused me.

Tue - Nothing; bounced between erudite, skull variants, but I couldn't land on anything I wanted to waste time writing down.
Fri - Panama

Highbrow ("cerebral" was the best I could do) ended my latest FJ streak at 14. My only misses this month have been on Tuesdays; there's one more chance left for that to change.

I think I would have gotten kiwi without "down under," as long as "smallest" and "flightless land bird" were still there.

On the bay salt question, I let the "Bay State" nickname and the existence of a township named Marion convince me to take a wild guess of Massachusetts.

Pilgrim's Progress on Monday. Isle of Despair seemed like it might be near the Slough of Despond. By the latter half of the clue, I was tired.

Highbrow came to me at once, though I did stop to count the letters in eggheaded (and egghead, though that's the wrong part of speech).

Wrong Carolina for Marion. I knew he liked swamps, and the Great Dismal is in VA and NC (I think), and that's the most famous one I know, aside from the Slough of Despond.

No idea on the fruit.

Spoiled on kiwi bird, but pretty sure I'd have said it for lack of promising alternatives.

I seldom can point to the particular reason I know something. Usually I've seen or heard of it in various places. Studying is natural, like eating or breathing.
I'm smart and I want respect.

Robinson Crusoe
Cerebral (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 - must be right)
Casey (at the bat) - oops
Clue
? North Korea? Laos? Oh, Western Hemisphere...Guyana?

It's always California, isn't it?
Kiwi, probably
Pomegranate? No, apple, no, pomegranate.

Not a good week.

Never made the Mopan -> Belmopan connection, and even after Alex said Belmopan, I thought, "Okay, I've heard of that place... but where is it?" Maybe this time it will finally stick with me.

I see several mentions of long FJ streaks being broken this week, and my response of "cerebral" on Tuesday ended mine as well.
No guess for me on the Bulls Bay question

You know, TPH suggested the same thing, and asked for the poll. But it misses the point. It was Francis Marion we were expected to know.

Had Robinson Crusoe first choice and flipped to Treasure Island thinking that the geographic TOM might be too hostile a location to survive.
Got highbrow after time ran out when I realized egghead didn't agree with clue.
I've got a new Spanish word in my vocabulary

Belmopar: to know something or not; third person plural conjugation: Belmopan

I Belmopo'd all over this one.
Thanks for the poll question; no prejudice intended, but I like the writers to use material that can be run into organically. I know the wizards here can divine these answers. Us muggles like to feel the masochistic sting of an almost-make. Citation: mon/tues clues.
