Since it comes up as a question here, I'm guessing the answer was not Russia. Poland, then? I'm guessing it's a country that has never won gymnastic gold, so that would rule out Ukraine.

ETA-- Ok, I see Russia was right after all. Wondering now what was interesting about the clue.
Alex gave USSR and the judges here are taking Russia as well. The Olympic years were 1964 & 1968 for the gymnast. What set it off was the felony by the contestants to not get a top box clue and if you read the Hammer education thread you can see how it became a federal case by the end of the week.

Yes, not the typical thing for one of the normal three extra clues, so I tacked it onto the poll in a different way.

Second most negbaity FJ this season after the Cayce, Kentucky one.
I'm in the SoCal area and the Dos Equis commercials are everywhere. I'm probably exposed to the ads 5 times a day. Commercials, billboards, radio spots, etc... The Gorton's fisherman is not present at all unless I go to the frozen section of a grocery store.

How much of a disparity is there in other advertising markets? From where I'm sitting the clue isn't negbait at all but if you're in a market where they show Gorton's as much as Dos Equis it would be a lot harder.
I’ve lived in the Chicago and NY areas and can’t remember the last time I saw a Gorton’s commercial, and I mean over the past decade. We see a fair number of Dos Equis ads, but not five times a day.

? ? ? (if someone could clue me in on the meaning of this row of three emojis I would appreciate it)

Haven't had a 4/5 week in a while so I'm pretty pleased.

The second row of smilies or frownies are for the three extra clues that are in each week's poll. Those clues appear with $ signs in the poll and you can see them in my first post as well.

I'll believe Gorton's is negbait when someone posts a picture of Hemingway in a yellow slicker...

To paraphrase my spouse - "I already told you". Actually, I think that's auto-text for every question I ask her  But, to re-gift Dinghammer's post:

For anyone else wondering, the other Dos Equis FJ was in this game. I don't remember whether I got it. Probably not.
Some assembly may be required.

I still don't know a THING about popular music and NHO Island Records. At least I was gratified that my WAG of Kingston was a good enough guess for one of the contestants to use as well.

Maybe some day they'll have a clue asking about Deutsche Gramaphon Gesellschaft (and pardon me in advance if I've misspelled it).

In a way, they did -- Deutsche Grammophon and Island Records are now both part of the same parent company (Universal Music Group).

Guangzhou/Canton came up in my game (it was a triple stumper, last clue in DJ!) so I'm unlikely to forget it.

I looked up the other Dos Equis clue--I don't specifically remember it, but I'm pretty sure I would have gotten it from that clue. Did not get it this time.

I only remembered the LL question about Island Records after hearing the correct response.

I think I said Russia for the gymnast. I need to be prompter with these polls so I don't forget as many details.
