Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread
I am already wondering why in the world I signed up for the Gen-X Mini-League.
(Gen-X ML MD1) 0(0)-6(4) L (0-1-0: 12/12)
I hate myself for missing Q1. I could see the bobbing 1980s hair, I remembered that it was alliterative, but I just couldn't drag Sally Struthers' name out of my brain. "Sissy Spacek" was incorrect.
Well I hope my opponents enjoy their easy points boost in this ML.

I am not participating in any of the current ML's, but I just looked at the Day 1 questions. I did manage to get Q4 correct. "Well, either it's Sam Kinison or I have no f***in' idea."zerobandwidth wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2018 8:53 am I am already wondering why in the world I signed up for the Gen-X Mini-League.

I missed the notice that the JI Sports ML has a ModKos of X, but it became quite clear when I saw the questions. Compounding matters, I had a true RTFQ moment on Q4: "That's Mike Powell breaking Bob Beamon's long jump record," then confidently put Powell and long jump It didn't end up costing me as I won 5(2)-0(0). Oof! This should be a wild ride.

Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread
I didn't like the implication in that question that Gen Xers wouldn't remember her from "All In The Family." I assumed it would be a 1960s sitcom based on that. My opponent got a six-pack, so I wouldn't have won anyway (I got seven points on four correct).zerobandwidth wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2018 8:53 am I hate myself for missing Q1. Re: Learned League 75 - Official Thread
Both the Sports and GenX are so in my wheelhouse, the exception being questions related to music videos as I grew up in an area where MTV was not part of the cable package.
Won Sports 3(3)-2(1), got He Hate Me, Let Them Play, and Powell/Beamon. I was a little surprised at the low get rate on Let Them Play, a pretty iconic sports movie moment. The Jordan 12 jersey question is pretty obscure but I love stuff like that. Went with Titans on the alternate logo, thought they moved around 1996 from Houston and the oil drop kind of lead me down the wrong path.
Lost GenX 5(4)-6(4), getting Struthers (from somewhere in the recesses of my brain), 227, Kinison (huge fan, he and Dangerfield in Back to School is an awesome scene), and Kangol (thank you 80s hip hop). I was singing Queen of Hearts but couldn't remember the artist, and of course had no chance on the music video question.

I'm feeling the same way about the Wall Street ML. Then again, by playing it I should learn more about business, which is one of my weaker LL categories.I am already wondering why in the world I signed up for the Gen-X Mini-League.
I'm in group 75 for Wall Street and 145 for GenX.

That Wall Street one is BRUTAL. I've gotten 1 question right in two days, and it was a guess.

These MLs are so hard to defend... I'm at 0.286 is sports (luckily I've got 8 right through 2 days and won both matches) and even worse 0.222 in GenX, where I tied yesterday 7(5)-7(3)... 9 right through 2 days and I'm 0-1-1 with opponents only getting 7 right.

(GenX ML G#168 MD2) 3(2)-0(F) W (1-1-0, 8/12)
It's a hollow forfeit win (my first in LL competition so far) but I'll take it.
Took the tease-out bait on Q1 to the wrong Reggie.
Q4 and Q5 were insta-gets. I've both read and watched Trainspotting. I've also spent countless hours playing Tetris, and had the amazing opportunity to meet Alexey Pajitnov at E3 as part of the game's 30th anniversary celebration.

This should have been a 3(2)-3(1) tie, as I answered "Danger Zone" for Q6. However, when I notified Hicks and pacek, they said that there was apparently a clip of this scene in the "Danger Zone" music video, and thus they accepted it. Luckiest Bad Guess Ever, and I'll take the win and back away slowly.

GEN X MD3 - Finally - my first win! despite not remembering that Oscar winning song from Top Gun. I think Pauly Shore put me over the top on this one

Won both my GenX and Sports matches on Day 3, defense is still horrible. I'm in 3rd in my sports group (24) and 5th in GenX group (81) due to bad D costing me wins and poor MPD

What wrong Reggie did you go with? Smith? That's the only other baseball Reggie from that era I can recall.

Uh… yeah. About that. I responded Reggie Miller. He played for the Rockies, too, right? This Is Kirk! wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2018 2:04 pmWhat wrong Reggie did you go with? Smith? That's the only other baseball Reggie from that era I can recall.

I should never have played, but somehow I have 2 wins. One against a day 1 forfeit, another against someone who got 0 right. Also a T 0(0)-0(0), lol.Blue Lion wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:01 pmI'm in the Wall Street ML. Answering more questions right in GenX, though also getting killed at a 1-3-2 clip, doing best in Sports where I'm undefeated, but turning wins into ties at 3-0-3 right now. Poor defense follows me everywhere.
Now swimming in the J! pool.

How in Sam Hill (get it?) was Kaepernick not an MCW?
