Rodgers more helpful.
Oh, what has science wrought? I sought only to turn a man into a metal-encased juggernaut of destruction powered by the unknown properties of a mysterious living crystal. How could this have all gone wrong?

Voted Guthrie; Rodgers served to confirm the kneejerk reaction Guthrie gave me.

To paraphrase Mitch Hedberg, it's not that I haven't read Portrait of the Artist--that is, I haven't read it, but it isn't that I haven't. It was just that daVinci sounded so good I didn't worry about "mythology", wrong century, and not a character, probably. Oh, I have started on Fifteenth Pelican, but it's mislaid somewhere.

I suppose Rodgers was the more helpful name, as I knew "Oklahoma!" was sometimes listed as state song, but Guthrie would have done by himself, even though I don't (yet) know which song.

I knew Goya goes with Maja (Naked and Clothed), but tough for top row, I agree. Quite persistent, those Inquisitors were.
I'm smart and I want respect.

If I realized who Richard Rodgers was, I might have gotten Oklahoma, but no way in this universe I was going to pull Stephen Daedalus.

Still have a draft card - working on a bone spur just in case ;)
Picked Icarus; even "brother of Icarus" wouldn't get me to Dadelus
Toyed with lumber products before potatoes
Guessed Hemingway, just to have a contemporary writer
Picked New York from the "This land is your land" song
Disclaimer - repeated exposure to author's musings may cause befuddlement.

Ginsberg Thursday. I was pretty sure it was one of those other Beat guys, but no other names were coming to me.

Tuesday's show wasn't shown in my location due to the SOTU, so I just went off the clue here, and missed - didn't pay attention to the category and guessed Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Not sure that I would have gotten Stephen Dedalus even if I had paid more attention to the category, although I have read Ulysses. Instagets on the rest of the FJs.

"Jazz" led me to think it was a clue to an African-American author on Thursday, but I couldn't think of anyone likely for the time period. Would have gone with James Baldwin.

Rodgers immediately led me to Oklahoma!, Guthrie alone would have been difficult.

No problem with Dayton, passing thru there about a zillion times. "Semi-Bypass" I-675 is there next to the Air Force base (would connect fully back to I-75 north of town, but I think the Air Force owns some of that land on which the highway would be built on.)

Flag on Monday.
I've never read/seen the work in question on Tuesday. I do know that Daedalus is a popular J! topic though, so it made sense and I kept it.
Embarrassing miss on Wednesday - pretty sure I had Albertson's. For the record, I love tater tots!
Rodgers was more helpful on Friday.

Couple weeks ago I mixed up Goya and Picasso by not RTFQ. Same thing happened again this week.

Thursday I knew right away which book the FJ! clue primarily referred to, and still couldn't pull the author's name out of my skull in time.

Richard Rodgers and Woody Guthrie were equally helpful Friday, so I couldn't really click either box.
Poo-tee-weet? So it goes.

My worst poll week by far in many months, 4/8. My forehead is still sore from all the slapping inflicted upon it. Couldn't pull Kerouac in time, but I knew "Ginsberg did poetry, his buddy did prose" wouldn't cut it. Didn't know the library lions even had names. Got draft card and Oklahoma just as time expired without time to write; realized that Icarus was wrong but Daedalus seemed too easy. Thank goodness for visits to the USAF Museum at WPAFB and a predilection for tater tots.
I'm not the defending Jeopardy! champion. But I have played one on TV.

Mon - Flag
Thu - Hughes
Fri - Guthrie was more helpful getting to the state, but Rodgers confirmed it more than Guthrie could have
