Dhruv looked the part of a top player today, fast on the buzzer and confident in his knowledge. FJ was close to an instaget: AEC -> DOE.

I thought "Reed" was the easiest in the College category. Also didn't recognize anything in Hamlet.

Ran the Geographic, Word History, and Owl categories, however.

How did they all miss "16 bits"? Wouldn't the birthday thing have clued them in that it's not 32?

..there's a Department of Energy?!? What do atomic bombs have to do with that?!?

If you don't know there's a college called Rice, then "Oryza sativa" could be anything.

No, just saying I found Reed easier to guess in comparison. I can't think of any other part of an oboe that sounds like it could be a college name.

I got 16 bits not because I played games of that era (I was never a console player), but the TOM of that being the greatest power of two less than the age of the players.

but the clue had houston in it...there are really only 2 notable schools in houston...rice and uni of houston...the musical instrument reference went over my head and didn't come up with reed i guess

If you don't know there's a Rice University in Houston, you're stuck trying to decipher "oryza sativa" though.

yes that is true, but for jeopardy people it should be widely known, since rice is one of the most regarded academic institutions in the south

Rice in Houston can be learned through the show's repetition as I proved in person on the 2005 clue. It's not like I knew anything about the alums having gone there.

It's one of the 16 "Harvard of the South"s.

My sister went to Rice and I still didn't put this clue together in time. I've got no complaints about the clue. On another night, I probably would've gotten it.

On the other hand, NHO Reed but WECIB? I'm with TPH on this one. There aren't a lot of parts to an oboe's mouthpiece. This one seemed obvious.

The writers knew this would play as bottom box. It stings for viewers like me to see Alex have to give the correct response. The parents of these students can dish out appropriate shocked reactions to it.
This would play as a $10,000 box for me. I guess I missed the memo  .

On FJ, how I would love to answer "what is oops". I wonder how Rick Perry did on this one? I was surprised at the triple get by the students because they could have assumed Energy was a thing since the founding. What do we need that newfangled petroleum for when we have plenty of whales? When's Trump going to get our whaling jobs back from China anyway??

It was a good clue from the writers because most the public (and some Governors) do not realize our nuclear arsenal is under the auspices of a "civilian" agency instead of the DOD. They may never have known there was an AEC.

We have a favorite in the Spicy meme lord competition.

R:26, W: 5, costing 4800
Coryat: 19,000
FJ:
DD: 1/3
LT: Arizona, 16

Ran the states and weights in the J! round, but that was about it for me. Stumped in Hamlet (why oh why oh why did I avoid all lit in high school and college?). One each in movies and vocab. DJ was worse, getting stumped in BC, and one each in journalism and eras.

Needed the rebound to distinguish rods and cones - I can never remember which does what. Had 16 for the byte size before the players went 0/3, so felt good about that one.

Count me as another that got FJ thanks to Mr. Perry's adventures.
