First five seconds of FJ for me: Arthur or Lancelot?

Next ten: I'll go with Arthur. His backstory was more fleshed out in The Once and Future King.

Final seconds of think time: Oh, duh, Don Quixote.

I'm accepting "Stuart Little Bear" for that one.

Anyone else disappointed that Flacco wasn't in the Elite Athletes category? Or is that too niche?...

Instafinal. Made more amusing by the news that Terry Gilliam's 'The Man Who Killed Don Quixote' is getting released at Cannes.
The best thing that Neil Armstrong ever did, was to let us all imagine we were him.
Latest movies (1-10): Everything Everywhere All at Once (10), Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken (6), Black Sunday /1960/ (6), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (7)

Anti-climactic game with the runaway but I didn't realize Hannah had fallen to 3rd place by being $3900 behind William (more than half of her day 1 $7600 edge). I wonder if she stayed clam without realizing her situation was slipping away. Her game reminded me of football season watching my Kansas City Chiefs snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I thought the DD's were difficult. The Alps are in Australia? Gorillas were like Sasquatch?

Very easy FJ for me as I wasted a semester in High School Spanish 2 on the book. The French reference gave me pause, but I wasn't coming up with any French characters.

This tourney was more enjoyable than last years.

Fine performance and victory by Drhuv, who was my pick after the quarterfinals, but had many close calls in the semis and finals. However, as we like to say in chess, luck favors the strong!

Excellent play by the "hometown" kid William, too. Unfortunately, missing yesterday's FJ after betting everything, and a critical DD today sunk his chances to challenge Drhuv. Both were the correct plays, but didn't pan out this time.

In fact, William's and Drhuv's DD and FJ betting was optimal throughout, unlike that of most players on the regular show.
MarkBarrett wrote: Fri Apr 20, 2018 1:43 pm For the TOC Dhruv showed plenty in four games to earn at least a Silver group and for now he’s in Gold with a limited field so far.
If they wait another 2 years like they did last time, he might even be in the Bronze group. Comparing him to the last 2 college champions, Drhuv looked noticeably better than Sam did, but a little weaker than Lilly. While Lilly and Sam were both markedly better players in the ToC than they were during the College tournaments, especially Sam, both were eliminated in the quarters.

Thought orangutang would be far more obscure than gorilla.
By the way it's orangutan. I think I've seen someone get negged on the show for adding that "g." The fruit flavored drink "Tang" had a series of commercials that used orangutans and I spelled it wrong for a long time because of that.

Dhruv played really well and I look forward to seeing him in the tournament of champions.

I don't want to spoil the week's worth of clues here, so I will use numbers 1-5 for Monday through Friday.

My prediction for highest percentage to lowest percentage: 2-1-5-4-3 with at least 10 points separating 5 & 4.

I think this is a good prediction, but it wouldn't surprise me if Monday and Friday are swapped. I think they'll be close, anyway.

I was actually thinking of New Zealand for that question. (I guess those mountains are the "Southern Alps," but I wasn't aware of a range called the Alps in Australia. A google search suggests that the range is called the "Australian Alps," so...) So I missed that question, but for a different reason.

I guessed gorillas. I figured it was a great ape, and orangutans were too far from Europe to be mythical there (although these "persons of the forest" definitely figure into local stories). Something the size of gorillas is more likely to be thought of as mythical than something like a chimpanzee.

Oh, shoot. Totally forgot that Lilly got a wildcard in the ToC. But based on the Coryats, it appears my ranking of the trio was accurate.

The what if game. William solves DD2 and has 21600 for the FJ! round for a possible 43,200 total.
Another what if game scenario: The show runs the Friday FJ on Thursday and the Thursday FJ on Friday.

About that DD, for persons of a certain age [ahem] you're probably supposed to remember the movie The Man from Snowy River.

Elijah Baley wrote: Fri Apr 20, 2018 4:54 pm An excellent group of finalists, although I'll admit that I was hoping William was going to get that DD - and thought he had it, too. It is a somewhat obscure bit of knowledge about the Land Down Under.
I knew the Snowy Mountains are in Australia but the mention of Alps made me doubt that the clue wasn't about Europe. If it wasn't a DD I might have clammed.

My mistake. I corrected somebody else and I was the one that was wrong. It doesn't look like Jeopardy! has ever negged anybody for saying orangutang and I should have checked before providing inaccurate information. In my defense orangutan is the standard spelling and the other spelling could be negged in categories like "Middle "G"" and "Scrambled Mammals."

Five seconds to look it up on Wiki. Alternate spelling.
