Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]
Not good with food trivia, but got that question right from a memorable scene in Full House - Uncle Jesse is decorating the house for Christmas, and tells Becky that he brought the mistletoe, to which she replies that it was not mistletoe, instead (the correct response to that question above). Jesse says well then we'll kiss under the garnish.... good enough for me.
There was another (I believe) trivia captain who was the carryover at the start of today's show, and he had all his lifelines gone after the $10k question IIRC. He got stumped on the $30k question asking for the musical artist with the given first name of Troyal. I had no problem screaming at the computer
Yeah I agree talking about your trivia endeavors is probably not good karma.

Sounds like the kind of detail he would have put in his bio, and would have come up during his interview, had he made it to a commercial.triviawayne wrote: ↑Tue May 01, 2018 8:33 pmHe got those trophies at my trivia nights. Curly leaf and Italian (a.k.a. flat leaf) are two main varieties of what herb used to garnish dishes?
A. Parsley B. Cilantro C. Chives D. Basiledit: I just found a post he made on Instagram; Dan Avila was his Plus One.Spoiler
Keith Moser said he thought basil before the answers appeared, and had a story about a basil plant that he and his girlfriend had for a couple of weeks until it died. He also said, "Parsley's not Italian," and eventually locked in D, basil. It was parsley, and Keith left empty-handed.

I don't mind the trivia trophies; say whatever you need to during the interview. I just found it funny that he fell in love with talking to Chris and spinning anecdotes instead of, you know, thinking seriously about the question. Had he done so, he might have realized that basil doesn't make much sense.

The 5/4 episode was quite unusual. Many spoilers ahead:
Returning player Mark Silvas used the audience to get the 10K question right. He used his 50:50 to get the 20K Q correct.

I went on a cruise a few years ago that had trivia games several times a day. It was the same people at every one. The winner of each game got a little plastic model of the ship. I went home with about nine of them, but I wouldn’t bring that up on TV as it wasn’t like I won nine games of Jeopardy. I think I still have one as a souvenir.Golf wrote: ↑Wed May 02, 2018 8:36 amLOL. I did. Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]
I suspect he just put it on his application at the audition to get their attention, and obviously it did. It is possible they never asked him about it. In the pre-game coaching, they only asked me in passing about my trivia night hosting, and went into much more detail about other things. Then to my surprise, Chris Harrison asked me about my trivia hosting--it really threw me off, but somehow I managed to talk about it.Bamaman wrote: ↑Sat May 05, 2018 9:40 amI went on a cruise a few years ago that had trivia games several times a day. Excellent update Mark, but a small heads-up that your first Jeopardy link is to the admin portion of the site. Also,
Spoiler
I know I'm biased, but surely between Greek and Russian the answer is obviously the latter? I wonder if it's a tough question in general for people with good trivia knowledge but limited knowledge of either language, or if Scott simply hit upon a bad question for his knowledge base?

I thought it was a no-doubter even without the input of the audience or the 50:50 lifeline. If player has to do what they feel best at the moment. At that level on a 50:50 with the audience at 65-35 that would be enough for me to go for it although easy to say at home.
I know Greek is 24 right off that bat and that Cyrillic would have to be more just from seeing occasional Russian writing. In this case I would think the question was not a good one for Scott while for others with J! pedigree a six-figure question would be seen. Especially after the gift for 30K.

Re: Millionaire 2017-18 Season Discussion [SPOILERS]
I knew exact numbers for Hawaiian, Greek, and Cyrillic, and had an approximate idea for Hebrew but can recite its alphabet anyway. I don't have the Hawaiian and Cyrillic alphabets memorized in the sense that I could recite them like Hebrew and Greek, but could reconstruct them. (Just for fun, I went alphabetically through the transliterations of Russian sounds, except for keeping ya, ye, yo, and yu with their Y-less counterparts, remembered the "soft" and "hard" consonant modifiers, and only got to 32, and realized I had forgotten the backwards N with the breve-like mark on it, used for the "i" sound when it comes second in diphthongs.)
It was unfortunate that Scott, a stronger player than many who preceded him, couldn't trust the audience enough to make the jump from $30,000 to a 1 in 4 chance at $100k. I wonder how it would have played if he'd asked the audience before the 50:50; I think Russian would have stayed above 50%, with none of the other choices reaching half that, and he might have managed to be more confident with that, perhaps even getting to 50k with the 50:50 still at his disposal.
