Now people who are listening late to the newest episode of Complete the List will be wondering why there wasn't a reference to Philip Roth's recent passing.

Probably not. Most people understand that episodes are taped in advance.

Roth grew up in Newark, NJ. NJ.com (website for the Newark Star-Ledger and other Jersey papers) ran this story about Roth, who won almost every literary honor except the Nobel Prize: http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2018/0 ... etime.html

People think Jeopardy is aired the same day they play the game. But I think most who listen to CTL know it isn’t live. However, based on my experience, I was impressed with how it transitioned from the tape session to listening to it on the podcast.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is this year's winner of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor: https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/23/entertai ... index.html. Earlier this month Bill Cosby, the 2009 winner, had his Mark Twain Prize revoked by the Kennedy Center after he was convicted of sexual assault: http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/bill-co ... 202801777/

President Trump posthumously pardoned Jack Johnson, the first African American to hold the world heavyweight boxing title. Johnson was convicted of violating the Mann Act; his prosecution has been condemned as racially motivated. Johnson TKOed champion Tommy Burns in 1908, and held the title until 1915, when he was TKOed by Jess Willard. In 1910, Johnson TKOed Jack Jeffries, nicknamed "The Great White Hope" (later, the title of a biopic based on Johnson's life):

If I had to guess, I think the first factoid maybe makes a Jeopardy clue, the second and third definitely won't, and the fourth only if the show is successful, which is a major long-shot.

This one'll be a clue, whether you like celeb gossip or consider it trivia worthy or not.

The extra clue could be about Kevin Costner being offered the part in Hunt for Red October and turning it down. It's not as tidy as having one clue per actor who actually played the role, but it works in a pinch.
