Obviously Brian is the answer that you were going for, but I don't see why Jasper wouldn't fit the technical wording of the question.
Ohhh, thanks. When I first looked at the answers last week, I did make the connection to Family Guy via Google - even though I've never seen the show. Then when I went to score the question today, I had no idea where Jasper came from. One of the downsides of not asking for a letter / answer combination

Ugh. This answer is so borderline, but I have to accept it. I don't like this answer at all, but I can't justify marking you wrong. In the future, I need to do a better job of defining the parameters of my game! ;)

I was actually kinda proud of it - I was afraid that all of my answers (tiger lily, dandelion, dogwood, cattail, etc.) would have multiple people answering it, so I thought of this loophole and spent way too much time finding something that would fit through said loophole.
Why didn't you just highlight the "ant" in ChrysANThemum? morbeedo is being generous, methinks. It is a slippery slope, no doubt - how is dandelion any better? Who gnu that sphaGNUm Moss would be OK?

Well, dandelion is from the French, dent de lion, or lion's tooth (says Wikipedia, source of all things true)

How to explain this without a linguistics degree? I have a problem with EMU because the animal name has nothing to do with the plant name - all we have is the letters E-M-U in a meaningless string contained with chrysanthemum. All the other answers are names of flora that contain the name of the animal both phonetically and semantically - the name is a discrete part of the word that retains its meaning. Now if only I had explained all this in the instructions! :roll:

well, my instinct was to mark it wrong, but I don't know jack about sports and ihavejeoprosy made a compelling case for charger. I also asked a friend who knows everything about everything and he said charger refers to a horse. Plus I didn't say anything about the team logo in the question, and anyway, the real competition is for 24th place

maybe I'll post alternative scores, where all these borderline answers get marked wrong and where the first shall be last, and the last shall be first

Here's the chargers original logo. They even had a knight that used to do a touchdown celebration in keeping with their theme. The electric bolt is actually a modified version of the bolt from their original logo.

There was a St. Louis Cardinals NFL franchise from 1960-1988, so I would think if the Thrashers are allowed as a correct answer, then the St. Louis Cardinals would qualify as well. Or would that have to be noted in the response?

This is, in fact, what I was going for since he didn't specify.

That, and it gave me the chance to still answer my favorite baseball team without actually answering them :)

No worries. The St. Louis football Cardinals are easily forgettable, even among sports fans. :lol:

12. BONUS – Name any 1 of the 10 creatures tossed into the witches’ “hell-broth” in Macbeth
Singleton – 5 bonus points / Double – 3 bonus points / Triple – 2 bonus points / Four or 5 – 1 bonus point / More than 5 – No bonus :(

BONUS RESULTS
Spoiler
Note: if you submitted more than one answer, only the first one counts. Unfortunately for 2 of you, newt was first in your list :(

Here's the scene from Macbeth. Initially, I missed the first part of the scene and only counted 10 - but there are 16 creatures mentioned in the text, not to mention the Jew, the Turk, the Tartar and the birth-strangled babe (yikes!)
Spoiler
First Witch
Round about the cauldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.
Toad, that under cold stone
Days and nights has thirty-one
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot.

ALL
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Second Witch
Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the cauldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg and owlet's wing,
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

ALL
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Third Witch
Scale of dragon, tooth of wolf,
Witches' mummy, maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark,
Root of hemlock digg'd i' the dark,
Liver of blaspheming Jew,
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Silver'd in the moon's eclipse,
Nose of Turk and Tartar's lips,
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingredients of our cauldron.

ALL
Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Second Witch
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.

Hey, what a fabulous prize! And I would've been satisfied with a case of live turtle wax. Thanks for the fun TD! (My kids enjoyed it too. My son came up with "gharial" for the g-animal. That was a new one on me!)

Doggone it, missed 24th place by one point. I was hoping for a year's supply of Sue Bee honey.

Thanks for a fun TD! :D
