Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Standings Up Through Q3)
Dude, that is hopelessly pedantic. Of course he shouldn't be negged for leaving "the" off "The Nanny." I can't even find that short-lived "Nanny" in my Brooks and Marsh. Should someone also be neg for saying "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" when the correct title was simply "Mary Tyler Moore"?
Some works are acceptable under their short title for example "Superman" for "The Adventures of Superman." It's like not requiring somebody to be able to rattle off the correct 13 word long title of "Dr. Strangelove."

Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Standings Up Through Q3)
Given I negged someone for "The Room" instead of just "Room" in my TD, I think the call is fair. It's only 4 extra points anyway and everyone else who sheeped saved a point.floridagator wrote: ↑Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:32 pm Dude, that is hopelessly pedantic. Here's the 1980s TV show, from the BBC: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanny_(TV_series)

Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Standings Up Through Q3)
ETA: Thanks for helping explain above!
Here's the imdb link, and my apologies for excluding this from the explanation. While you make a point, I do not think this is quite the same as your examples. There was only one Mary Tyler Moore Show, so there is no issue including or excluding "The". Similarly, a J! game was decided two years ago when a contestant wrote "The Silent Spring", acceptable as there is no other work with that specific title.
In this case, however, while "The Nanny" comes up first on google, the existence of another show called "Nanny", no matter how obscure, makes the leading article necessary to avoid ambiguity.
Of course this was a very borderline call, and combing through the entry sheets, there are going to be more debatable calls in the days to come. If I am lenient on one, however, I can't be with another, and thus I stand by the original call. I will apologize to all for not making this clear in the first place, and I am appreciative of your patience toward a first-time host.

Haha I actually wrote down all my answers on Friday but didn’t get around to submitting until the 11th hour!
But man- opening with a double SHEEP- not too optimistic. Need to read up on crowd dynamics. At least I didn’t Tumblr into the Vimeo trap. Also flirted with Once on this Island for best musical- I didn’t realize it’s a revival? Anyway, I’m surprised at how few Tony winners I could come up with.
Looking ahead, I took a risk on just one question- otherwise it should be smooth sailing- well- should be
Didn't watch the Tony's this year, so I didn't know about Once on this Island until you mentioned it either - even so, that wasn't up for Best Musical, so it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
Agreed that naming all nineteen certainly is not an easy task. It's highly possible I might not have been able to name all if I were playing. Still, I didn't expect that question to play as hard as it did, nor that many drops, but I suppose that speaks to your point. Smart move by those who elected the sheep.
It's about damn time we knock him off his pedestal. 'Nuff said.
What I find ironic is the image said "easy listening". Oy.
That's how I felt about answering North Korea in floridagator's last TD.. oops.

Can we have a moratorium on all the complaints about Guy Lombardo questions? floridagator was the only person volunteering to host for a period of several weeks and for that we should be grateful.

The crooner questions have reached “rake gag” status for me. It was fine the first time, then it became annoying, and now I want to see how far the trope can go.

I love the crooner questions... Now we need some Big Band Instrumental questions.
(Preferably bands that swing a little hotter than Lombardo!)

Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Standings Up Through Q3)
As Jeff Sutphen would say, let's get back to the game-play!
4.) High School: The Classics, Man!
As we progress further into the 2000s, high school students are subjected to read more “classics” in their English courses - at least I have, anyway. Take a stroll with me down memory lane! Given the title, name the author (AND GIVE THE CORRESPONDING LETTER) of one of these novels, plays or poems that I have read in the last ~five years.
A.) Things Fall Apart - Chinua Achebe
B.) Persuasion - Jane Austen
C.) Endymion - John Keats (or Dan Simmons or Benjamin Disraeli)
D.) Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
E.) The Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka
F.) Their Eyes Were Watching God - Zora Neale Hurston
G.) A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich - Alexander Solzhenitsyn
H. ) The Crucible - Arthur Miller
I.) Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad
J.) Hamlet - William Shakespeare
K.) To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
L.) Rime of the Ancient Mariner - Samuel Taylor Coleridge
You guys like your African-American writers! Good thing I removed August Wilson from the quiz.

I’ve been a sports buff my entire life - Football, Baseball, Golf, NASCAR (we’ll talk about that in another TD). However, the sports world with my friends has always revolved around basketball. Many celebrities and other young people around the world have taken a tremendous interest in the NBA in recent years for the game’s fast paced action, excitement and marketable stars such as Stephen Curry and LeBron James. Name any team to play in the NBA Finals since 2000 (13 possible answers).
Two sheeps that were probably expected, one that wasn't. No one likes La La Land, apparently. I don't blame you.

Re: TD 384 - A Millennial Medley (Q5 Standings)
Feels good to be 28 again!
I was unsure of Keats but took a chance. I'm the only one who answered Keats but I got 2 points
I'm not complaining - I just need all the help I can get after my triple SHEEP

No one picks the Lakers, but the NETS sheep; Cavs sheep, but their partners in monotony the Warriors are worth 2. Then again, that novels question was completely upside down. Never change, TD.

I'm not sure why I went with Achebe - I don't remember seeing Solzhenitsyn up there, but I read both in 10th grade English and definitely would have went with Solzhenitsyn if I had read all the options.

Don't look now, but there's a wall-mounted LP of Kate Smith Sings Songs of the NOW Generation over my shoulder! That's a hilarious thought, but I'm not looking to get banned or anything.
