I had less than a week to prepare for my recent WWTBAM taping, and I randomly decided to memorize the International Phonetic Alphabet. You'll have to tune in to see if I got lucky ;)

Oh, that's an Excel click and drag error. Fixed it

Two singletons to start, then Q3 comes along...I was confused as to whether you were asking for the number or the letters on each button. Figured # would be safe, but should've gone with *.

By design, the scope narrows with each question, ending in a bottleneck

Isn't the correct answer "Zulu" (and why didn't I put that :| )

I didn't know about the group performing as a freestanding unit beforehand, and don't expect TD-writers to google the universe to grade the results. I just took a shot because these days musical groups never die, even if all the artists do (I think there were four groups at one time as the Temptations or the Platters?). I figured to die on the next hill anyway, because I didn't know if the NATO alphabet was the IPA.

These are fun, and the elimination format is a nice twist, even if I am always wearing the Trek-ian redshirt whenever I enter any TD.

Well, the link does say "THE Band Of Renown"...

I thought of maybe going with Glenn Miller Orchestra, but figured the "The" would kill it.

I didn't think of a huge list for this question -- I just figured it was unlikely anyone else would say Yeah Yeah Yeahs, so I went with it -- but this response reminded me of one of my favorite three-word band names: (The) Samuel Jackson Five.

Oh, I had a huge list, largely consisting of mid-2000s dance-punk bands.

I’m just wondering what would have led two people to the bands that didn’t Singleton.

I've got no skin in this game, but why is Papua New Guinea incorrect but East Timor correct? I know there might be a subtlety here about what's considered Asia vs Oceania, but seeing as PNG shares an island with Indonesia as well, and East Timor and PNG are so close to each other, I'd want to consider it.

This is pretty tense, as far as games with absolutely no stakes are concerned. I’m in the lead, but with only four possible answers to the last question, no lead is safe. I have a feeling that one of the four will be a surprisingly large sheep, with not much room between the other three; I’m hoping I didn’t make the wrong choice.

Thanks! This one also gives a fairly compelling reason for New Guinea to be connected to Australia.
