Re: Summer Hiatus Challenge 2018--TOC Day 3
YOU'VE GOT THE POWER
We've described a number and written it in scientific notation with the power of 10 missing. You fill in the power. A quick refresher: 10 to the zero power is 1, 10 to the 1st power is 10, 10 to the 2nd power is 100, and so on; 10 to the -1 power is 0.1, 10 to the -2 power is 0.01, and so on. Remember, we are looking for the power, not the number referred to in the clue, so your answer will be an integer.
2: If The Barenaked Ladies had this many dollars, they would buy an exotic pet, John Merrick’s remains, and some art ("a Picasso or a Garfunkel"): 10 to this power.
4: Dr. Seuss character Bartholomew Cubbins wears this many hats: 5 x 10 to this power.
6: In finance lexicon, a "unicorn" is a start-up company with a value of at least this many dollars: 10 to this power.
8: A "fifth" of whiskey is this many liters: 7.5 x 10 to this power
10: Challenger Deep, the lowest point of the Mariana Trench, is this many fathoms below the surface: 6 x 10 to this power.
GOING OUT WITH A BANG
3: Pat Benatar urged the listener to "fire away" in this 1980 hit.
6: The gun George fires at Martha in this Edward Albee play launches an umbrella, not a bullet.
9: A player who draws the namesake card in this game published in 2015 and can't defuse it is eliminated, as players have only one life, not nine.
12: This is the name of the Dallas plaza where John F. Kennedy was riding when he was fatally shot.
15: In 2005, flustered college student Brian Collins ad libbed over Nets-Pacers highlights: a Pacer "gets the rebound, passes it to the man, shoots it, and" this four-word phrase follows.
