Doug got what I call “champ’s leeway” at a couple of spots in ON THE ROOF when Alex gave him a couple of chances to try to clean up some shaky responses.

Sara was not kidding about the song titles as it’s easy to find information about Silence!: The Musical on Google using the title and Sara Butner.

Doug had control after ELECTION 1968 for $1200 and started a new category at the top. DD2 was waiting for him at ELECTION 1968 $1600 and he let his chance to play it get away. If Doug plays it then the game could have been tighter and perhaps Sara does not have such a cushion at DD3 when she bet big.

The FJ! clue was the perfect spot for me to lose my 9-streak as I was completely lost on it going from mercury to alcohol. Perhaps influenced by Sara’s story I scribbled “Chianti” to have something on my paper.

The influence that would have helped me was the question of the day on Millionaire about Popeye’s nephews.

Nice 3/3 by the players to improve the contestant percentage for the week.

Ambrosia. :(

Hey, it apparently is discussed by both Homer and Plato.

Anyone else just say oil? Gonna' guess that's not good enough.

I assume "Ventilation" is okay on Roof for $400?

So "Antenna" BMSes to satellite dish, huh? Wanna explain that one?

As much as I know about grammar, I can't say I've heard of "restrictive" before.

I live literally less than two miles from the lake named in Lakes for $1,200.

Precalled My Left Foot in Movie Body Parts.

All but "Doddering" in 3 Consonants. I said "wobbling" which I wonder would've been enough for an overturn.

Strangely, the only perfume I got was the only one they didn't. No hope on the others.

"Liquid gold" had me thinking of some valuable mineral or liquid and coming up blank. I could've taken 10,000 guesses and never come up with olive oil. How was this a triple get, and how exactly do you counterfeit olive oil? It's not like it's THAT valuable...

Holy cow, four misses already. And here I was going to say I hope no one ruins the perfect record.

Is it Bizarro Day? I finally got a FJ! correct!

Went 3/5 on Lawrence's ELECTION '68 category. Missed the DD by suggesting Goldwater, who ran in '64 instead. Whoops!

I would not credit it; unmodified, I most naturally equate "oil" with "petroleum."

I counted it, along with "Karen Blixen" on the final clue of the round.

I'm pretty certain "ventilation" is the response they were looking for.

33 right.

TV Shows by Episode Title (3), Authors Born & Died (4), Grammar A-Z (1), Fiddler (2), On the Roof (2), If I Were in Richmond (5)
The Body Part in the Film Title (4), Makes Scents (1), World Lakes (4), 3 Consonants the Same (1), "Per"spective on Science (2), Election 1968 (4)

Lach Trash: Raymond Chandler

When I saw "liquid gold", I thought of crude oil, but I didn't think that would be correct. The "gold" part made me think of platinum, but that wouldn't work. I knew the Corleones' front business was olive oil, but it didn't come to mind here.

Another easy FJ. Apparently a lot of EVOO is not all that pure & a few years ago several people died because it was adulterated with toxic stuff. I was glad to see a new champ. Lawrence O’Donnell looks younger than her did 20 years ago! He must have a fantastic surgeon!

Restrictive clause? Really? I know my grammatical terms fairly well, but that one's barely familiar. I'm not saying I've NEVER encountered it. But I don't think I've seen it in regular use. Not surprised it was a TS.

Kudos to Sara for going true DD on the very next clue in that category. My wife was yelling at her to bet $5 in case they came up with another bogus grammar clue. I agreed with that in general, but not in this case. Doug had a monster win yesterday. When you go up against that, you have to leverage every opportunity to the max. Sara did the right thing and it paid off.

There is some easy money for contestants who want to familiarize themselves with a few basic facts about the following three detective fiction writers:

- Arthur Conan Doyle
- Dashiell Hammett
- Raymond Chandler

Today a simple request to recognize which author was connected with The Big Sleep went begging.

Of course, if you go the "few basic facts" route, you're cheating yourself. All three are excellent reads.

I wasn't completely confident on this FJ but I didn't see what else it could be.

Coryat: 36,200
45 R/3 W
DD: 3/3
FJ:
LT: Homeland, Raymond Chandler, doddering

I had heard of the counterfeit olive oil thing before, so this was an instaget, but I wonder how I would have done piecing the clues together otherwise. "Agro" + "liquid gold" + thing that has been important for millennia is a solid set of TOMs.

I've never seen Alex try so hard to pull a correct response out of a player as he did on vent --> venting/ventilation.

A satellite dish is a type of antenna.

Olive oil makes so much sense in retrospect, but I didn't get it. All I could come up with was honey.

Nice win by Sara.

No, because "wobbling" doesn't fit - the category was 3 consonants, and "wobbling" only has two.

Nice win by Sara.
I also thought of honey for about two seconds, then remembered having heard the "olive oil" story some time back. Almost Instaget.

27,600 coryat.

Ugh. I couldn't stop thinking about the high value of cheese within the Italian economy for the whole of think music, but couldn't get that to jibe with "liquid gold." I paused it after the music ended and it took me another thirty seconds to recall reading about the adulterated olive oil trade plaguing Italy a while back. :x

Another TDD in the J! round FTW.
I would prefer not to.
