Re: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
The show had a couple of nice bonus moments
The FJ! round had me overthinking things as I immediately wrote the correct response while during the break I added one more title. When the clue was revealed I had nothing to write and only had to cross out my unnecessary 2nd instinct.
Nice title defense by Emily. No treat with 61 clues although close, only one shy.
Spoiler
Swapna’s son who wants to be a game show host got to join Alex at the host’s spot after the show.
There was a montage of Alex getting dressed up as a member of Kiss, including make-up.

Re: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Those were some spooky wagers - appropriate for the day, I guess.
And the FJ clue is kind of shady too. The use of chocolate syrup and a casaba melon are well established. Less so is the use of Ms. Renfro as Janet Leigh denied that any body double was used in the shower, and instead, stated that Ms. Renfro was used only where Norman takes the body out to the trunk of the car - which I wouldn't count as being part of the scene. It didn't affect the outcome but it's just odd that the writers were a bit sloppy when they could have just referenced the syrup and melon.

I'm going to take a stab and guess it was a little film by George A. Romero.

No, sticking with the same director, I thought the writers could throw at trick at those playing the precall game and instead have something leading to The Birds.Robert K S wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 3:50 pm I'm going to take a stab and guess it was a little film by George A. Romero.

Just as influential in the slasher genre as the correct Final response, but on the other end of the quality spectrum, is Blood Feast (1963).
Anyone who thinks the correct response was innovative in its summary disposal of the protagonist during a hotel stop before the end of the first act should check out The City of the Dead, released the same year, when it next airs on TCM.

"Chocolate syrup" immediately led me to Psycho. Didn't know about the Marli body double thing, but I stuck with it.
Re: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
I had a massive brain cramp and blanked on five answers in a row: "nougat", "liquor", "pralines", "wicked", and "Ravenclaw".
I watched more game shows than cartoons when I was a kid. So naturally I ran the Game Show Hosts category.
Shawnee for Pawnee and another brain cramp on "cranium" led to 4/5 in "Nee" and Bones.
And once again, I completely go off the rails and get nothing right in DJ!
Insta-miss with The Exorcist. I thought that maybe the syrup and melon were used to make the vomit.

Not a bad idea, but for the record, The Exorcist was 1973, and the vomit was pea soup.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 7:28 pm Insta-miss with The Exorcist. I thought that maybe the syrup and melon were used to make the vomit.
Instaget FJ. The chocolate syrup was a dead giveaway.
Why do I still remember random Harry Potter nonsense like Rowena Ravenclaw...
Gene Simmons: solid 8/10 as a clue reader.

I had to look it up. I know the shower scene, but even after the reveal, I just couldn't make melons and syrup make sense with it. Turns out the syrup was the blood stand-in.xxaaaxx wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 7:36 pmNot a bad idea, but for the record, The Exorcist was 1973, and the vomit was pea soup.TenPoundHammer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 31, 2018 7:28 pm Insta-miss with The Exorcist. I have the same question about myself, and I gave up after Goblet of Fire.

Not a fan of 60s films or Halloween, but the fact that it's freaking Halloween led me to Psycho as soon as Alex revealed the category. I don't need no stinkin' clue!
Got more correct responses in DJ than J for some reason.
Nice job from Emily to pick up win #2, hope she sticks around longer!

Re: Wednesday, October 31, 2018 Game Recap and Discussion (SPOILERS)
Fun trivia fact
The song "Mandy" was originally Brandy," and was written by the British songwriters Scott English and Richard Kerr. Barry Manilow's producer Clive Davis decided to change it to "Mandy" because it was a better title and because there had been another song that was a hit only a year or so earlier called "Brandy (you're a fine girl)." English and Kerr were reportedly mad as hell but did not decline any royalty checks.

The original version is so much better! Instaget FJ. The beginning of DJ was rough but good game to see. Ironic that the guy who just got back from Uganda didn’t ring in for Kampala. It’s nice that Swapme’s son got to enjoy the podium!

37 right.
Game Show Hosts (4), Take a "Nee" (3), Reports of My Death... (3), It's a Witch (4), A Skeleton (3), Give Them Some Candy (1)
Halloween With Gene Simmons (4), The First Millennium (4), Philosophy (1), World Capital Punishment (5), Song Title Women by Lyric (2), Ottoman-opoeia (3)
Lach Trash: The Witches of Eastwick, Bede, Egypt; Daily Double: radius
Instaget FJ because of the chocolate syrup; didn't know as much about the casaba melon or Marli Renfro.
Cool costume by Alex, and it's great that Swapna's son was able to command Alex's podium!

I also got lucky having that Psycho scene fresh on my mind, as I viewed it on YouTube a few days ago. But yeah like I said before, "chocolate syrup" was the giveaway, something I've known from much longer back.

Adam and Swapna appeared to be impersonating a pair of wax dummies from Madame Toussaud's in the first half of DJ. Thank goodness Swapna came to life in the second half to avoid a lock game.
A lot of younger viewers were probably scratching their heads after the FJ reveal. "How can chocolate syrup stand in as blood?" not knowing Psycho was filmed in B&W. Kids these days.
Kudos to Gene Simmons for really selling the KISS clues.
